Trio Score a Pair as Women's Soccer Takes Down Nyack

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2015) – Powered by two-goal games from junior Abigail Littleton (Simi Valley, Calif./Ventura College) and freshmen Lauren Calderaro (La Verne, Calif./Bonita) and Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance), the Mercy College women's soccer team dominated its way to an 8-0 victory over Nyack College on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks win their second straight and improve to 2-1-1, while the Warriors remain winless at 0-4-1.

Sophomores Alexandra Modlinski (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall) and Heidi Serna (West Covina, Calif./South Hills) recorded Mercy's two other goals on the day. Littleton also added an assist on four shots on goal, while Calderaro chipped in an assist and now has a team-high four goals on the year. Noble ended the day with two assists, while senior Jessica DeLeon (Phoenix, Ariz./Paradise Valley CC), sophomore Alyssa Iannuzzi (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) and sophomore Stephanie Escala (Corona, N.Y./Long Island City) each tallied an assist. Sophomore Ashley Price (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) earned the shutout in net, aided by a Mavericks backline that allowed only two shots and no shots on goal.

The visitors were led by Julianna Kranes and Vanessa Sefriou who recorded the Warriors lone shots on the day.

Mercy jumped all over Nyack from the opening kickoff and maintained possession in the Warriors half of the field for the entire game, finishing with a 32-2 edge in shots.

Following ten minutes of scoreless action, the Mavericks got on the board as Noble took a pass from DeLeon from just beyond midfield and went the distance, firing the shot past the Nyack goalkeeper to give Mercy a 1-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later the Mavericks struck again as Serna got on the board with a feed from DeLeon and fired it from right corner of the box to put Mercy up 2-0. Littleton put the Mavericks up 3-0 in the 20th minute, taking a ball from Noble and putting it past the keeper from just inside the box.

Mercy would maintain a 3-0 lead heading into halftime and a 20-2 edge in shots.

The second stanza saw the Mavericks score early and often as they put up five goals in the frame. Noble picked up her second of the day less than 30 seconds in as Littleton touched one over and Noble headed it in to put Mercy up 4-0.

Calderaro picked up her first of the day in the 49th minute off an assist from Escala to make it 5-0. The Mavericks would receive another goal from Littleton and tallies from Modlinski and Calderaro to conclude the scoring on the day.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks will look to continue their win streak as they host Daemen College in their ECC opener on Friday, September 25th at 1:30 pm.
