DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2015) – Powered by goals from seniors Jessica DeLeon (Phoenix, Ariz./Paradise Valley CC) and Savannah Campana (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial), the Mercy College women's soccer team extended their win streak to three as they defeated Daemen College, 2-0, in their East Coast Conference (ECC) opener on Friday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (3-1-1, 1-0 ECC) remain unbeaten at home, while the Wildcats (2-5-1, 0-1 ECC) have their two-game winning streak snapped.

DeLeon and Campana combined for three shots on goal on the afternoon, while sophomore Alyssa Iannuzzi (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) and freshman Lauren Calderaro (La Verne, Calif./Bonita) each picked up an assist in the victory. Senior goalkeeper Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) made four saves in net to pick up the shutout win and improve to 2-1-1 in 2015.

Daemen was led by Stephanie Zurales who ended the contest with four shots on goal, while goalkeeper Meaghan O'Leary made five saves in taking the loss.

The Mavericks got off to a quick start as DeLeon scored in only the 6th minute of action. The senior took a pass from Calderaro and fired a shot well outside the box that was out of the reach of O'Leary to put Mercy up 1-0 early.

Each goalie would come up with a stop following the goal before Campana struck in the 22nd to put the Mavericks up 2-0. The senior received a nicely played throughball from Iannuzzi and took advantage of a one-on-one situation with the keeper to give Mercy an insurance goal.

The backline of the Mavericks allowed only two shots in the opening half and Mercy headed into halftime up 2-0 with an 11-2 edge in shots.

The Wildcats found themselves on the Mavericks end of the field more often in the second half but were unable to get on the board as the Mercy backline and Augustine stepped up to preserve the shutout win.

The Mavericks ended the contest maintaining an 18-9 advantage in shots after the two teams were all even at 7-7 in the second half, while Mercy also held a 13-4 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks return to action on Sunday, September 27th, hosting Roberts Wesleyan in an ECC matchup at 3 pm.
