Ballin Named ECAC Offensive Player of the Week; Amell Tabbed Rookie of the Week

(Sept. 30, 2015) – Mercy College field hockey junior Jackie Ballin (Cupertino, Calif./Cupertino) has been named the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman Julia Amell (Greene, N.Y./Greene) was named the Rookie of the Week.

Ballin continues to be an offensive catalyst for the Mavericks, posting a goal and two assists in a two-win week for Mercy against Dowling College and Newberry College. The junior forward currently leads the team in goals (5) and points (13).
Amell continued her strong freshman campaign last weekend, playing every minute of the Mavericks' two wins. The freshman made 12 saves in a 3-2 triumph over Dowling College, then recorded a dozen more stops against Newberry, including five in the game's final minutes to preserve the 3-2 victory for Mercy. Amell finished the week with a 1.65 goals against average and .857 save percentage.
The award is the first earned by Ballin this year, while Amell earns Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this year.
