SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2015) – Despite receiving shots on goal from graduate student Juan Gatti (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Monroe CC) and freshmen Lucca Lacerda (Passos, Brazil/Monroe College) and Donovan Cesar (Jamaica, N.Y./St. Francis Prep), the Mercy College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Mavericks conclude their season-opening upstate road trip 1-1, while the Dolphins improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Gatti and Cesar each finished with a shot on goal, while Lacerda continued his strong play from the opener with two shots on goal. Redshirt sophomore Julio Sanchez (Henderson, Colo./Otero JC) made his second consecutive start in net for Mercy and made three saves in earning his first loss of the season.

The home team received goals from Mark Gentile and Adam Resetarits and Ben Beaury made four saves in net to pitch a shutout and earn the victory.

Another tightly contested contest broke out for the Mavericks early on as the two teams combined to go over 32 minutes without a goal. Gentile broke that streak at the 32:07 mark of the first half as he headed a ball from the top of the six off a right corner and put it into the middle of the goal to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead.

Le Moyne headed into the intermission up 1-0, but Mercy held a 5-3 advantage in shots after 45 minutes of play.

The Mavericks would have a chance for the equalizer in the 60th minute of action as Gatti fired a free kick from 21 yards out into mid-goal but Beaury made the stop to keep the game 1-0.

The Dolphins maintained a 1-0 lead until the 84th minute when Resetarits took a feed from the upper right corner of the penalty box and placed it into the lower left corner of the goal to make it 2-0.

Mercy would be unable to strike a rally and Le Moyne held on for the victory.

The Dolphins ended the contest with a 10-9 edge in shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Head Coach Chris Smith and the Mavericks look to bounce back as they travel to American International College on Wednesday, September 9th for a 7 p.m. start time.
