Goodson Named MBWA Women's Basketball Division II-III Player of the Week

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Jan. 12, 2016) – Mercy College women's basketball senior Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y./SUNYIT) has received Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) women's basketball Division II-III Player of the Week for games played Jan. 4-10.

Goodson continued her double-double tear, finishing with three double-doubles on the week as the Mavericks went 2-1 on the week. The senior averaged 13.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game and shot 41.3 percent from the field to help lead Mercy to their first ECC win. The forward opened the week with 10 points and 14 rebounds on 55.6 percent shooting in the Mavericks 66-51 victory over Nyack on Monday. Goodson followed that up with 16 points and 10 boards on 47.1 percent shooting, adding five blocks, at Roberts Wesleyan. In her final game of the week, the senior put up 14 points and 16 rebounds as the Mavericks defeated Daemen on Saturday.

The senior becomes the first Maverick to earn Player of the Week honors from the MBWA and picks up the team's ninth accolade of the season.

Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks look to win their second game in a row as they host St. Thomas Aquinas today at 5 p.m.
