ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Jan. 8, 2016) – Senior Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y./SUNYIT) finished with her eighth straight double-double as the Mercy College women's basketball dropped a 74-48 decision to East Coast Conference (ECC) foe Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday night at the Voller Athletic Center.

The Mavericks (3-9, 0-5 ECC) fail to win their second game in a row and remain winless in league play, while the Redhawks (11-1, 3-1 ECC) have won three in a row.

Goodson put up 16 points and 10 rebounds on 8-of-17 shooting for her ninth double-double of the season, while swatting a game-high five blocks. Freshman Cynthia Perez (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) chipped in nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from downtown and sophomores Casey Sullivan (East Lyme, Conn./Saint Bernard) and Monet Keane-Dawes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) added seven points.

Brooke Fields led the way for Roberts Wesleyan, scoring a game-high 17 points while dishing out a game-high-tying five assists.

The first conference game for the Mavericks since December 19th saw the Redhawks get off to a 10-3 start with 6:27 left in the first quarter. The home team built the lead up to 12, 22-10, with 2:22 left in the frame after a Fields layup, forcing a Mercy timeout. Out of the timeout, the Mavericks closed the period on an 8-3 run, capped off by a Goodson layup, to only trail 25-18 after one quarter of play.

Junior Paxton Reddington (Holmdel, N.J./Brookdale CC) opened up the second quarter with a trifecta to cut the deficit to four, 25-21, just over a minute in. However, Roberts Wesleyan responded with a 17-9 run to increase the lead back to 12, 42-30, with 2:47 left before half. A Goodson layup at the 1:11 mark would help send the Mavericks into the locker rooms down 10, 42-32.

Mercy shot 41.9 percent from the floor while the Redhawks were able to connect at a 44.4 percent clip in the first half.

A Perez triple 16 seconds into the second half cut the Roberts Wesleyan lead back to seven, 42-35, and the Mavericks looked to be gaining some momentum. The Redhawks had other ideas as they came right back with a 14-4 run to build a 56-39 lead with 4:48 left in the third quarter. The home team got the lead up to 18, 59-41, at one point before Perez closed the scoring in the third with a three-pointer to get Mercy within 15, 59-44, after three quarters.

Roberts Wesleyan came out in the fourth quarter and ended any chance of a Mavericks comeback by outscoring Mercy 15-4 in the final frame to seal the victory. The Mavericks struggled to shoot in the second half, hitting only 19.2 percent (5-of-26) of their attempts.

Mercy ended the night shooting only 31.6 percent (18-of-57) while the home team connected on 38.2 percent (26-of-68) of their attempts. Roberts Wesleyan held a 44-42 edge on the glass and 32-16 edge in paint points. The Redhawks also used 20 Mavericks turnovers to hold a 27-2 advantage in points off turnovers.

Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks resume action tomorrow as they travel to Daemen College for a 2 p.m. start.
