Four Different Mavericks Score as Women's Soccer Earns 5-0 Victory Over New Haven

(Oct. 18, 2016) – Powered by four different Mavericks recording a goal, highlighted by two goals from sophomore Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance), the Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 5-0 victory over the University of New Haven in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (11-3) have won three games in a row and ten of their last 11 games, while the Chargers (5-9-1) have dropped five games in a row.
Noble recorded her team-leading ninth and tenth goals of the season and added an assist, while sophomore Lauren Calderaro (La Verne, Calif./Bonita) and freshmen Natasha Camacho-Bier (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) and Dominique Banks (San Diego, Calif./Helix Charter) also scored. Junior Stephanie Escala (Corona, N.Y./Long Island City) and sophomore Kennedy Salerno (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) both added two assists and senior Libby Zelikowitz (Middle Village, N.Y./Francis Lewis) also dished out an assist. Junior goalkeeper Ashley Price (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) made four saves in earning the shutout victory.
Danielle Widmann led the Chargers with two shots on goal. Kyra Wolonsavich made the start and played the first half, making three saves. Deandra Nash appeared in the second half and made three saves.
The opening half saw limited scoring chances for either team, but Noble was able to capitalize on a chance in the 39th minute to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. The sophomore received a pass from Salerno on the right side of the field and fired it off the goalkeeper's hands to give Mercy the lead heading into halftime.
The second half saw the Mavericks offense explode for four goals with Camacho-Bier starting the scoring in the 51st minute. The freshman one touched the ball into the back of the net following a cross from Noble in front of the net, making it 2-0 in favor of Mercy.
Just under 10 minutes later in the 60th minute, Calderaro got on the board receiving a cross from Escala and then firing the shot into the lower right corner to make it 3-0. Noble scored her second goal of the day in the 63rd minute off a double assist from Salerno and Zelikowitz, one touching the ball into the net to increase the Mavericks lead to 4-0.
Banks concluded the offensive explosion in the 70th minute when she tapped in a cross by Escala in front of the net to make it 5-0. Price and the Mavericks backline would hold New Haven off the board to preserve the shutout victor.
Mercy held a 13-7 edge in shots and a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, October 22nd when they play at Molloy College.
