ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2016) – Led by a first-half goal from freshman Jessica Brandt (Folsom, Calif./Folsom), the Mercy College women's soccer team secured their fourth straight berth into the ECC Tournament with a 1-1 tie against Molloy College on Saturday night at the RVC Sports Complex.

The Mavericks (11-3-1, 5-1-1 ECC) remain unbeaten in road games and are unbeaten in their last four games, while the Lions (6-7-2, 3-3-1 ECC) record their second tie of the season.

Brandt recorded her fourth goal of the season, while sophomore Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) added a team-high three shots on goal. Junior Ashley Price (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) made two saves and is now 10-3-1 on the year in net.

Danielle Valente scored the lone goal for Molloy off an assist from Samantha Mendes. Goalkeeper Brianna Wilson made 11 saves and is now 5-7-2 on the year.

Mercy controlled play throughout and forced Wilson to make two saves in the first 35 minutes before Brandt got the Mavericks on the board in the 36th minute on a shot from 20 yards out to make it 1-0.

Wilson was forced to make another save in the frame and with 44 minutes gone by it looked like Mercy was going to head into halftime with a 1-0 lead. However, Mendes stole the ball from a Mavericks defender and fed the ball to Valente who beat Price from the top of the box with five seconds left in the half to even the score up at 1-1.

Mercy held an 8-3 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks in the first half.

The second half saw the Mavericks control possession of the ball on the Molloy side of the field for most of the half. Mercy would have several scoring chances, but Wilson was up to the challenge and made five saves in the second half to keep the Mavericks off the board. The score remained 1-1 after 90 minutes of action so overtime was needed.

Mercy once again dominated the first overtime period, recording all four shots in the period, but were unable to score as Wilson picked up two more saves on shots by freshmen Dominique Banks (San Diego, Calif./Helix Charter) and Trista Seara (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst).

The second overtime period saw the Mavericks once again fire all four shots in the period, but Mercy was unable to find the game-winning game so the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Mavericks held a 25-5 edge in shots on the night and a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks resume action on Thursday, October 27th when they host Philadelphia for Senior Day at 3:30 p.m.
