Bady Scores Team-High 14 Points as Women's Basketball Plays at Southern New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, N.H. (Nov. 13, 2016) – Despite a team-high 14 points from sophomore Chi-la Bady (Valley Stream, N.Y./Francis Lewis) and a double-double from sophomore Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, N.Y./Keystone College), the Mercy College women's basketball team dropped a 79-52 decision to Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse.

The Mavericks (0-2) drop their second straight game to begin the season, while the Penmen (2-0) have won two in a row to start the season.

Bady also collected four rebounds, while Hall secured her first double-double as a Maverick with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Monet Keane-Dawes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) finished with ten points and nine rebounds and freshman Caralie Wilson (Gold Coast, Australia/John Paul College) contributed five points.

Southern New Hampshire was led by Sara Ryan who had a game-high 20 points and five assists, while Kylie Lorenzen netted 17 points and 13 rebounds.

The Mavericks got to a good start against the Penmen as they jumped out to an 8-7 lead with 5:45 left in the first quarter after a three by Keane-Dawes. Southern New Hampshire took back the lead at 13-10 with 3:06 remaining in the opening quarter before the Mavericks scored six points in a row to take a 16-13 lead after three points from Bady and a pair from Hall. A three by Victoria Dean tied the score up at 16-16, but Bady made a layup with 21 seconds left in the period to give the Mavericks an 18-16 lead after one quarter.

The Penmen opened up the second quarter with six straight points to retake the lead at 22-18 with 7:54 left in the half. Mercy battled back and got within a point, 24-23, after another Keane-Dawes trifecta at the 5:07 mark. Southern New Hampshire ended the quarter and half on a 13-5 run to take a 37-28 lead into halftime.

The third quarter saw the Penmen open up the half on a 10-4 run to take a 47-32 lead with 5:24 left in the quarter. The Mavericks responded by cutting the deficit to nine on two separate occasions but Southern New Hampshire would end the third quarter with a 54-42 lead.

The Penmen outscored Mercy 25-10 in the fourth quarter, beginning the quarter on a 21-4 run to take a 75-46 lead with 4:11 left. Southern New Hampshire would lead the rest of the way in earning their second straight to begin the season.

The Mavericks shot 24.3 percent (17-for-70) from the floor and 20.8 percent (5-for-24) from downtown, while the Penmen shot 45.9 percent (28-for-61) from the field and 40.6 percent (13-for-32) from beyond the arc. Mercy held a 47-40 edge on the glass with a 17-12 advantage in second chance points.

Head Coach Jim Harter and the Mavericks look for their first win when they host Nyack College for their home opener on Tuesday, November 15th at 7 p.m. at Westchester Community College.
