VALHALLA, N.Y. (Dec. 14, 2016) – Senior William Robinson (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nyack College) recorded a double-double by way of a career-high 29 points along with 12 rebounds, as the Mercy College men's basketball team dropped a 62-53 decision to LIU Post in an ECC matchup on Wednesday night at Westchester Community College.

The Mavericks (2-9, 0-3 ECC) fail to build off their win from Thursday, while the Pioneers (3-7, 2-1 ECC) move over .500 in ECC play.

Robinson shot 13-of-24 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the foul line to record a game high in points. Sophomore Amir Atkins (Alexandria, Va./Hagerstown CC) finished with a season-high 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting and junior Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y./Felician University) concluded the night with eight points and seven rebounds.

LIU Post was led by Jared Hall who had a team-high 16 points, while Kyle McLeggan netted 13 points. Hall Elisias finished with a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to round three Pioneers scoring in double figures.

The visitors jumped out to a 12-6 lead at the 12:19 mark of the first half after back-to-back threes from McLeggan. The Mavericks would then close the half on a 19-5 run to take their largest of the game, 25-17, after back-to-back trifectas from Atkins with 50 seconds remaining in the half. Mercy headed into halftime up 25-17, holding the Pioneers to just 20.7 percent shooting in the opening half.

The second half saw LIU Post score the first seven points of the half to cut the Mavericks lead to just one, 25-24, with 18:18 left to play. A Raphael Jennings (Washington, D.C./ASA College) triple at the 16:59 mark increased the Mercy lead to 30-26 at the 16:59 mark. However, the Pioneers followed with an 11-0 run to take the lead back at 37-30 with 12:10 on the clock.

Mercy clawed their way back and tied the score up at 41-41 after a Robinson layup at the 9:19 mark. LIU Post once again had an answer and put together a 7-0 run to take a 48-41 advantage with 7:12 left. The Mavericks did not go down without a fight in front of the home crowd as Robinson got Mercy within two, 50-48, with 2:55 remaining. That would be the closest the Mavericks could get as the Pioneers ended the contest on a 12-5 run to secure the victory.

Mercy shot 33.3 percent (21-of-63) from the floor, 21.4 percent (6-of-28) from downtown and 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from the foul line. LIU Post shot 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the floor, 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from beyond the arc and 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from the charity stripe. The Pioneers held a 47-35 edge on the glass.

Head Coach Dr. Jody King and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, December 17th when they host Molloy College at 3 p.m. at Westchester Community College.
