RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Dec. 30, 2016) – Despite a double-double from sophomore Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, N.Y./Keystone College), the Mercy College women's basketball team closed out 2016 with a 66-56 setback to Felician University on Friday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.

The Mavericks (1-10) drop their sixth straight game, while the Golden Falcons (3-10) snap a two-game losing streak with the win.

Hall posted a team-high 15 points and ten rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Sophomore Chi-la Bady (Valley Stream, N.Y./Francis Lewis) added 12 points off the bench and sophomore Cynthia Perez (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) contributed eight points.

Felician was led by Marta Moix who had a game-high 20 points, while Marya Trapp posted a double-double by way of 18 points and ten rebounds.

After a nearly two-week break, the Mavericks jumped out to a 7-3 lead at the 6:01 mark of the first quarter after an Abigail Collier (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) jumper. The Golden Falcons came back with five unanswered to take a brief 8-7 advantage before Hall answered with a layup to give Mercy the lead back at 9-8 with 4:14 left in the quarter. Felician closed the period on a 7-2 run to take a 15-11 lead after one quarter of play.

The Golden Falcons opened the second quarter with the first five points to take a 20-11 lead with 8:24 left before halftime. The Mavericks later cut the deficit to four, 25-21, at the 6:33 mark following a pair of Casey Sullivan (East Lyme, Conn./Saint Bernard) free throws. However, the hosts came back with a 16-8 run to build a 41-29 lead with 1:17 remaining in the half. Hall nailed a pair of free throws right before halftime to send the Mavericks into halftime down, 41-31.

Perez nailed a three and Hall added a layup to start the third quarter, getting Mercy back within five, 41-36, with 8:21 on the clock in the third quarter. After a Collier layup brought the score to 43-38, the Golden Falcons followed with seven straight points to build the lead back to 12, 50-38, with 3:15 left in the frame. Mercy would head into the final quarter down 54-44 after six points from Hall in the stanza.

Sullivan drained a three to open the fourth to make it 54-47, but Felician went on a 9-2 run to increase the lead to a game-high 14 points, 63-49, with 4:24 remaining. The Mavericks would follow with a 5-0 run to get the deficit back to single digits, but that would be the closest they could get as Felician came away with the victory.

The Mavericks shot 27.4 percent (20-of-73) from the floor, 21.9 percent (7-of-32) from beyond the arc and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the foul line. Felician shot 44.4 percent (24-of-54) from the field, 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from downtown and 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the foul line. The Golden Falcons held a 55-32 edge on the boards and a 15-4 advantage in second chance points.

Head Coach Jim Harter and the Mavericks resume action on Monday, January 2nd when they play at Daemen College.
