Three Mavericks score in double-digits in ECC matchup against Daemen College

With the loss, the Mavericks now fall to 6-17 overall and 3-12 in the ECC. The Wildcats will improve to 8-13 overall and 6-9 in the conference.

Goodson has recorded double-doubles in the past two games for the Mavericks. She is No. 13 in all of NCAA Division II Women's Basketball in double-doubles with 13 total. Three Mavericks scored in double-digits in this afternoons contest. Freshman Chi-la Bady scored 11 points for Mercy. She dished out a game-high six assists, had a team-high three steals, while also grabbing five rebounds for the Mavericks. Bady holds the No. 4 spot in the ECC in assists per game with 3.8. Another Maverick to score in double digits was junior Paxton Reddington. Reddington finished with 11 points, two assists, one steal, and two rebounds.

For the Wildcats, Somara Colon recorded the lone double-double for Damen, scoring 15 points, while recording 12 rebounds, four steals, one assist, and one block. Sarah Saba finished with a game-high 21 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, one steal, and one assist. Leah McDonell was not far behind, as she finished the afternoon with 17 points, four rebounds, and one assist.

The first quarter was a close battle, as both teams were scoring back and forth. The Wildcats would open the game up with a made layup by McDonell off of the jump ball. Goodson answered back with a made layup just 30 seconds later off of a steal by sophomore Monet Keane-Dawes. Colon would then score four unanswered points for the Wildcats. Reddington came to the rescue, as she paced the Mavericks for the rest of the quarter, shooting an impressive three-of-three from downtown, putting 9 of the 12 points on the board for Mercy. Mercy would enter the second half trailing 18-12.

The Mavericks would continue their three-point hot streak at the beginning of the second quarter, when sophomore Casey Sullivan sunk her first three of the game with 9:41 on the board. Mercy would score seven unanswered points in the first three minutes of the quarter, earning a 25-14 lead. Colon and Saba then scored back to back layups to put the Wildcats back in the game. The Wildcats would then go on two 6-0 scoring streaks in the quarter to regain control of the game. The Mavericks trailed 37-36 at the half.

Goodson opened up the start of the third quarter with a made jump shot at the 9:26 mark to put the Mavericks ahead by one. The next four minutes of play would be a close fight, with the score being tied twice. At the 6:13 mark Keane-Dawes was able to go 2-2 from the line to tie the game 40-40. Saba was able to take the lead Daemen by sinking a jump shot but it was sophomore Latisha Clark who answered back for the Mavericks, also going 2-2 from the charity stripe at the 5:06 mark to tie the score at 42-42. The Wildcats then proceeded to go on a 12-0 tear to secure the lead. The third quarter finished with a score of 60-46.

Goodson was the first to score in the final quarter, making a layup at the 8:56 mark. Bady would sink a three less than a minute later to bring the score to 60-51. Bady scored seven of her 11 total points in the fourth quarter. The Mavericks fought hard, but were not able to overcome the Wildcats. The Mavericks fell to Daemen College with a final score of 75-67.

Mercy ended the afternoon shooting 73.1 percent from the charity stripe, compared to the Wildcats 55.0 percent. The Mavericks also shot an impressive 40.0 percent from the free throw line, while Daemen was held to shooting just 30.0 percent.

Head Coach Rashidi Aikens and the Mavericks return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 16th, as they will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas for a 6:00 p.m. game.
