DOBBS FERRY N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2016)- Despite a final double-double from senior Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y./SUNYIT), the Mercy College women's basketball team was unable to surpass the Bridgeport Purple Knights as they fell, 60-46, closing out their 2015-16 season on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Gymnasium.

Before the contest, seniors Deasia Goodson, Tatiana Parish, and team manager Ziesha Bayron were recognized for their accomplishments during their time at Mercy College.

With the loss, the Mavericks end their season with a 6-22 overall record and a 3-17 East Coast Conference record. The Purple Knights rise to 10-18 and 8-12 in the ECC.

The Mavericks were led by senior powerhouse Goodson, who scored 16 points and recorded 14 rebounds. Next up for the Mavericks was junior Paxton Reddington (Holmdel, N.J./Brookdale CC), who added 14 points, a game-high-tying four steals, two assists, and one rebound for the Mavericks. Freshman Chi-la Bady (Valley Stream, N.Y./Francis Lewis) also put up a strong fight, contributing eight points, and a team high five assists.

For the Purple Knights, they were led by sophomore Aurelie Leblanc-Florent who scored a game-high 20 points, while adding two assists, and one steal. Another stat leader for Bridgeport was freshman Kadijah Dickson who finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

Goodson opened up her final game of her Mercy basketball career making a layup at the 9:46 mark to put the Mavericks on the board. The first quarter was an almost even battle between Goodson and Leblanc-Florent from Bridgeport. Goodson recorded 10 points and four rebounds in the first quarter, while Leblanc-Florent added 11 points and one assist for the Purple Knights. Mercy entered the second quarter with a 22-19 lead.

Reddington scored first in the second quarter as she sank a three off of an assist at the 9:27 mark from sophomore Monet Keane-Dawes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood), this would be her fourth assist of the contest so far. However, Mercy struggled offensively in the second quarter of the game as the Purple Knights outscored the Mavericks 14-9 in the second quarter. Mercy would enter halftime trailing just 33-31.

Louise Ovner came out on fire at the start of the third quarter, as she scored four unanswered points for the Purple Knights to bring the score to 37-31. After a 30 second timeout called by the Mavericks, Goodson put the Mavericks on the board after she made a layup off of an assist from Bady at the 7:54 mark. The Mavericks were only able to score six points in the third quarter, which found them falling behind 48-37 as the third quarter came to an end.

It would be the 6-0 run that the Purple Knights would take at the start of the fourth quarter that the Mavericks would not be able to overcome. Mercy fell to Bridgeport with a final score of 60-46.

Mercy ended the afternoon shooting 32.8 percent and ended with a 50.0 percent from the charity stripe. Bridgeport shot a 34.8 percent, while also going a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
