The Mavericks had a slow start to the game, as the Pioneers scored nine unanswered points in the first two and a half minutes. After coach Aikens called a 30 second timeout, sophomore Casey Sullivan (East Lyme, Conn./Saint Bernard) took charge and sunk a three point jump shot to get the Mavericks on the board. Freshman Chi-la Bady (Valley Stream, N.Y./Francis Lewis) chimed in just one minute later with a made layup to make the score 11-5. Goodson then would execute a made layup after Sullivan earned a defensive rebound. Junior Paxton Reddington (Holmdel, N.J./Brookdale CC) then sank a three point shot with just five seconds to spare to bring the score to 15-10 entering the second quarter.
Reddington, Bady, Goodson, and sophomore DaMonae Hargrove (White Plains, N.Y./Maria Regina) all contributed two points in the second quarter. However, this was not enough compared to the Pioneers 15 points scored. Mercy entered halftime trailing by 12 with a score of 30-18.
The Mavericks entered the second half of the game looking to get back on track. However, LIU Post came out and outscored Mercy 25-10 in the third period to take a commanding 55-28 lead after three quarters of play.
The Pioneers would cruise their way to the win in the fourth quarter as the Mavericks could not find their offense.
Mercy shot 22.9 percent (11-of-48) from the field while the Pioneers made 41.3 percent of their attempts. LIU Post held a 50-30 edge on the glass and maintained a 36-12 advantage in points in the paint.
