NEW YORK, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2016) – Mercy College men's basketball senior Tyseem Lyles (Brooklyn, N.Y./Tompkins Cortland CC) has received Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) men's basketball Division II-III Player of the Week Honorable Mention recognition for games played Feb. 1-7.

MBWA Release

Lyles had a strong week for the Mavericks as Mercy went 2-0 on the week to improve to 9-9 on the year, their best start since the 1992-93 season. The senior scored the game-winning layup as time expired against perennial ECC power LIU Post on Wednesday night at the Westchester County Center. The win gave the Mavericks their eighth win all-time against the Pioneers in 74 meetings and the senior scored 13 points in the contest. The guard followed that performance up with a team-high 16 points in the Mavericks 74-70 win over NYIT on Saturday that helped Mercy sweep the season series with the Bears for the first time since the 1997-98 season. On the week, Lyles averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in 32.0 minutes per game.

The guard earns his second accolade from the MBWA and picks up his third award of the year. The MBWA honor is the fourth picked up by a Maverick this year and is the seventh accolade earned by a Maverick this season.

Head Coach Dr. Jody King and the Mavericks resume play tonight at home against SUNY Delhi at 7 p.m.
