Davidson Records Season-High-Tying Six Points as Women's Lacrosse Moves to 4-1 Following 11-4 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 15, 2016) – Sophomore Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) posted a game-high four goals and two assists, as the Mercy College women's lacrosse team defeated the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 11-4, in a non-conference clash on Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (4-1) are off to their best five-game start since the 2013 season and defeat the Griffins (1-5) for the fifth time in seven all-time meetings.

Davidson finished today's contest with a season-high-tying six points and added two draw controls and a caused turnover. Junior Alexa Haines (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) added two goals for the Mavericks along with one assist and two groundballs. Sophomore Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead) and freshman Sarah Koehler (West Sayville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) each netted two goals and senior Nicole Kline (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) also notched a goal in the victory. Senior Meg McNally (Hillburn, N.Y./Lock Haven Univ.) added two assists and two groundballs and freshman Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) chipped in an assist along with three groundballs and four draw controls.

Junior Melissa DellaRocca (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) ended the contest with a game-high three caused turnovers and sophomore Hope Coticchio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) shared game high honors with three groundballs. Junior Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) made the start in net and went the entire first half with zero goals allowed and seven saves to pick up the win and move to 4-0.

Emorie Keimig recorded a hat-trick for Chestnut Hill along with two ground balls and one caused turnover. Katie Joe Lang made nine saves in a losing effort for the Griffins.

Mercy played a strong first half, as they were able to score six goals in the half compared to the Griffins zero. Kline opened up the scoring for the Mavericks at the 25:30 mark to put Mercy up 1-0. Less than 30 seconds later Davidson netted her first of the day to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead with 25 minutes left in the half.

Davidson came back following the draw control and netted her second of the contest off an assist from Haines to make it 3-0 with just over 24 minutes in the half. Mercy would be kept off the board until the 7:13 mark but Haines changed that with her seventh goal of the season to make it 4-0. Davidson ensued with her third goal of the game less than two minutes later to give the Mavericks a commanding 5-0 lead.

Rocco stepped up with seven saves in the frame to keep Chestnut Hill off the board and Koehler capped off the scoring in the half at the 2:45 mark to give Mercy a 6-0 lead at half.

The Griffins finally broke the shutout with 28:33 left in the second half to make it 6-1. Davidson put an end to any hope of a comeback as she followed with her final goal of the day at the 25:54 mark to put the Mavericks up 7-1. Haines increased the lead to 8-1 with her tally with 15:44 on the clock before Chestnut Hill scored two unanswered to cut the deficit to 8-3. However, Jehle put together her two goals of the contest to up the lead back to seven, 10-3, with 7:47 remaining.

Both teams added a score to close out the game as Koehler finished off her seventh goal of the season to help finish off the Griffins and improve to 4-0 at home.

Mercy held a 22-19 edge in shots and an 18-12 advantage in groundballs.

Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks will return to action on Friday, Mar. 18, when they host the Rams of Philadelphia University at 3:00 p.m.
