MELBOURNE, Fla. (Mar. 24, 2016) – Three different Mavericks scored as the Mercy College women's lacrosse team concluded its Florida trip with a 5-3 setback to No. 20 Florida Institute of Technology on Thursday afternoon at Panther Stadium.

The Mavericks (5-3) have now dropped two in a row, while the Panthers (8-2) have won five of their last six games.

Sophomore Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) finished with a goal and an assist, while senior Nicole Kline (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and junior Alexa Haines (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) each recorded a goal. Senior Meg McNally (Hillburn, N.Y./Lock Haven Univ.), sophomore Hope Coticchio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and freshman Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) each finished with a team-high four groundballs, while McNally also produced a team-high three caused turnovers. Junior Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) made the start in net and went the first half with one goal allowed and two saves. Junior Shianne Judson (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) played the second half and made three saves in earning the loss.

FIT received two goals from Mary Gormley and Allie Modica. Stephanie Stuart made the start in goal and played the full 60 minutes, making six saves to earn the win.

A low-scoring affair broke out between the two teams in a game that featured an hour and five minute lightning delay late in the second half.

The game remained scoreless for almost ten minutes before Davidson netted a goal at the 22:28 mark off a pass from Isnardi to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. Mercy, who came in among the nation's leaders in fewest goals allowed per game, kept the Panthers off the board until 12 minutes left in the half when Gormley scored off a free position shot to make it 1-1.

The Mavericks answered just under five minutes later as Kline produced a goal to give Mercy a 2-1 lead with 7:51 left in the half. The score remained 2-1 heading into halftime as the Mavericks held a 10-6 edge in shots in the half. The two teams also combined for 29 turnovers in the first half.

FIT used a Mercy yellow card that carried over from the first half to even up the score at 2-2 as Modica scored off a free position shot at the 29:05 mark of the second half. Haines gave the Mavericks back the lead less than four minutes later as the junior scored off a feed from Davidson to put Mercy up 3-2 with 25:44 left.

The Panthers came back and showed why they are among the nation's top teams as they scored a pair less than a minute apart to take their first lead of the game, 4-3, with 21:46 left.

Mercy looked for the equalizer, but Stuart came up with three saves in the second half, including two on Davidson with just under four minutes to keep the score at 4-3. The Mavericks continued to battle, but Modica would put the game away with her second of the day with just 22 seconds to put FIT up 5-3.

The Mavericks held a 15-14 edge in shots, while the Panthers maintained a 24-21 advantage in groundballs.

Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, March 30th as they host Queens College in an ECC matchup at 3 p.m.
