Box Score 2
Game 1: Molloy 3, Mercy 2
The Mavericks were led by Golino and Stevens in game one, who scored the lone two runs off of two homers. Golino would be the first to score in the game as she hit her solo homerun in the top of the sixth inning.
Next up to bat were the Lions, who had a stand out inning in the bottom of the sixth, ultimately earning them the victory. Ashley Fedor, Olivia Banulski, and Tracey Balinskas would all score off of singles hit by Balinskas, Milan Botte, and Brianna Dalton.
Despite Stevens solo homerun in the top of the seventh, it was not enough to keep the Mavericks in the game, falling 3-2 in game one.
Freshman McKaily Cusumano pitched all six innings for the Mavericks, striking out nine batters and throwing an impressive 70 strikes. Chelsea Hawks took the mound for the Lions all seven innings.
Game 2: Mercy 3, Molloy 2
Five different Mavericks recorded hits in game two of the doubleheader this afternoon. Senior Alyssa Gutierrez led Mercy in game two with one hit and two RBI in two at bats.
Mercy would be the first to score once again in the game two when Golino doubled to left center field, allowing Stevens to score in the top of the second inning. Gutierrez would bring in two more runs that inning when she blasted a single down the right field line and advancing to second on the throw. Her double brought Golino and Cusumano to the plate, bringing the score to 3-0 with Mercy in the lead.
The Lions would fight back in the bottom of the fourth but it would not be enough to earn the victory. Alexandra Russo hit a double to left center field, allowing Brianna Dalton to score for the Lions. Next, Sarah Rambo hit a double down the left field line, bringing Russo in for the second run of the inning. However, it was not enough as the Mavericks took the 3-2 victory in seven innings.
Freshman Joelle Salisbury earned the win for the Mavericks, pitching five innings and striking out three batters. Junior Jackie Kielty earned the save by pitching two innings and also striking out three batters. For Molloy, Jenna Turato pitched all seven innings.
Head Coach Mike Fazio and the Mavericks will travel to Bloomfield College on Monday, Mar. 28 for a nonconference doubleheader. Game time is set to start at 2:30 and 4:30 pm.
