Ueno saves the day with walk off home run against the College of Saint Rose

Game One: Mercy 8, Saint Rose 6
The Mavericks jumped out to an early lead in game one, scoring the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. Ueno would score her first run of the day off of a double from sophomore Morgan Lloyd through the right side. The Golden Knights were able to get on the board to tie the game in the top of the third inning when Danielle Dayton was able to score on an error by the Mavericks.
The Mavericks would get the scoring started up when freshman Joelle Salisbury singled to center field with the bases loaded, bringing in freshman Ashley Smith for the run. Ueno was next to single down the left field line, bringing in junior Julie Gross and freshman Kaylee Stevens. The Mavericks ended the third inning with a 4-1 lead and were able to hold off the Golden Knights in the top of the fourth.
The scoring in the bottom of the fourth started when freshman Marisa Miano flied out to right field, bringing in Lloyd, putting another on the board. Sophomore Clariet Saldana was then able to score on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 6-1 at the end of the fourth inning.
It was in the top of the seventh inning that the Golden Knights proved they were still in the game. Five separate Knights were able to score, tying the game 6-6. It was Ueno who saved the day, blasting a walk off two run home run to left center field, bringing in Salisbury to earn the 8-6 victory.
The Mavericks had four different pitchers through the contest. Freshman McKaily Cusumano and junior Jackie Kielty both pitched a total of three innings. Cusumano struck out a total of seven batters and let up just three hits. For the Golden Knights, Briana Bowen and Roma Mazzariello took the mound, both striking out two batters.
Game Two: Saint Rose 11, Mercy 0
The Mavericks struggled offensively in game two of the afternoon, only recording two hits in the five innings of play. The Golden Knights came out ready to play, as they were able to score 11 unanswered runs in game two.
Ueno and sophomore Chelsea Konyar recorded the lone two hits of the contest for the Mavericks. Ueno had a stand out afternoon, as she recorded four hits and four RBI between game one and game two.
Salisbury and junior Stephanie Kirgan both saw action on the mound in game one and in game two. Salisbury recorded two strikeouts in the 2.2 innings pitched. Kirgan pitched a total of 2.1 innings.
Head Coach Mike Fazio and the Mavericks resume play tomorrow at Smith Field as they host Dowling College in an ECC doubleheader. Game times are set for 2:30 and 4:30 pm.
