Four Mavericks Record Game-High Four Points as Women's Lacrosse Earns 13-1 Victory Over Queens

(Mar. 30, 2016) – Powered by a game-high four points from senior Meg McNally (Hillburn, N.Y./Lock Haven Univ.), junior Alexa Haines (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), sophomore Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead) and freshman Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville), the Mercy College women's lacrosse team earned a 13-1 victory over Queens College in an East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (6-3, 1-1 ECC) snap a two-game losing streak and pick up their first ECC win, while the Knights (5-3, 0-2 ECC) remain winless in league play.
McNally finished with three goals and an assist, adding three groundballs and three caused turnovers. Haines contributed two goals and two assists and Isnardi ended with three goals and an assist. Jehle added two goals and two assists and junior Tori DiFusco (Mahopac, N.Y./SUNY Cortland) netted a goal and an assist. Freshman Sarah Koehler (West Sayville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) scored a goal and chipped in an assist, while sophomore Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) recorded a goal. Sophomore Hope Coticchio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) picked up an assist and junior Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) played the full 60 minutes in net with three saves to pick up the win and improve to 6-0.
Alyssa Walker scored the lone goal of the game for Queens and Krista Ancona made the start in net and went the first 48:48 of action, making nine saves in a losing effort.
Mercy entered today's contest having won four of their first five home games by double digits and they would not disappoint the home crowd today as they led from start-to-finish.
Isnardi set the tone early with a free position goal less than a minute in to give the Mavericks an early 1-0 lead. McNally picked up her first of the day just under two minutes later to put Mercy up 2-0 with 27:50 left in the opening half.
The Mavericks defense was on point today as they did not surrender a shot until four minutes left in the first half. With 18:27 left in the half, Isnardi netted her second of the game off a pass from Jehle to increase the Mercy lead to 3-0. Koehler, Haines and Jehle then added three goals in a span of just over two minutes to put the Mavericks up 6-0 with 15:10 left in the half.
Isnardi concluded the scoring in the half for the Mavericks to put Mercy up 7-0 before the Knights recorded their lone goal of the game with time expiring in the half to make it 7-1 at halftime.
The Mavericks continued to dominate in the second half as DiFusco and Davidson got in the scoring column to put Mercy up 9-1 with 17:08 remaining in the game. McNally added two more and Jehle netted her second on the day to increase the Mavericks advantage to 12-1 with 11:27 remaining. Haines concluded the scoring on the day with a tally at the 3:42 mark to finish off the win and improve the Mavericks record at home to 6-0.
Mercy held a 27-7 edge in shots and a 14-8 advantage in groundballs. The Mavericks maintained a 9-6 edge in draw controls and went 15-of-18 on clear attempts.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, April 2nd when they play at Dowling College at 1 p.m.
