The Mavericks earned a 10-1 victory in seven innings in game one before falling 7-6 in eight innings in the nightcap.
The Mavericks (2-5) snapped a four-game losing streak with the win in the opener, while the Trojans (1-9) pick up their first win of 2016 in the nightcap.

Game 1: Mercy 10, Virginia State 1
The first of two scheduled seven-inning games of the day saw the Mavericks bats come alive for 10 runs and 15 hits and that was more than enough for Snyder who allowed only two hits and one earned runs with six strikeouts to pick up the win.
After scoreless first inning by both teams, Mercy broke through in the second as Daley singled home sophomore John Young (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and freshman Nicholas Chilson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead.
Mercy broke open the game in the third as they put up six runs on seven hits with Chilson starting the scoring with a two-run single to make it 4-1. Daley and Torres followed with RBI singles to make it 6-1 before Arcabascio concluded the scoring in the inning with a two-RBI double to make it 8-1.
That would be more than enough support for Snyder who mowed down the Trojans allowing only no hits since the opening inning.
Mercy added on another run in the fifth as Arcabascio brought home Torres who had doubled earlier in the inning. The Mavericks concluded their scoring in the sixth as freshman Joseph Sadallah (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) came through with a pinch-hit RBI single to make it 10-1.
Game 2: Virginia State 7, Mercy 6
The Mavericks jumped on the board quickly in the nightcap as Hagan doubled home Arcabascio who had walked in the inning to give Mercy a 1-0 lead. The hosts had an answer as they came back with two runs in their half of the first to take a 2-1 lead after one.
Virginia State tacked on a run to their lead in the second to make it 3-1 after two. The Trojans would plate two more runs in the fourth to increase the lead to 5-1 and looked to be well on their way to the victory.
Mercy responded with a run in the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Mavericks trailed 5-2 heading into their final at bat before a three-run inning by Mercy sent the game into extras. Arcabascio got the scoring started with an RBI single that scored junior Kenny Costa (Byram, N.J./Sussex County CC) who had previously pinch hit and reached on an error. Hagan followed Arcabascio with a two-run home run to left field that tied the game up at 5-5.
Senior James Patterson (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) held the Trojans scoreless in the seventh and the teams went to the eighth all tied up at 5-5. Mercy broke the tie in the eighth as Waters hit a pinch-hit home run with two outs to make it 6-5. The lead was short-lived as the hosts came back in their half of the eighth with two runs to steal the victory away from the Mavericks.
Head Coach Jason Lamando and the Mavericks resume action on Sunday as they conclude their three-game set with the Trojans at 12 p.m.
