Haines Finishes With Career-High Seven Points as Women's Lacrosse Improves to 3-0 With Victory Over Dominican

(Mar. 9, 2016) – Led by ten different Mavericks recording a point, highlighted by a career-high seven points from junior Alexa Haines (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), the Mercy College women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2013 season with a convincing, 13-1, victory over Dominican College on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (3-0) set a school record for fewest goals allowed in a game, while the Chargers (0-4) remain winless on the year. The previous record for fewest goals allowed in a game was two set against UDC on March 6, 2015.
Haines led the way with two goals, five assists and three groundballs, while freshman Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) continued her strong play with a goal, three assists, three draw controls and three groundballs. Also, recording two goals apiece were sophomore Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead), senior Meg McNally (Hillburn, N.Y./Lock Haven Univ.) and freshman Sarah Koehler (West Sayville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist). Rounding out the Mavericks scoring goals were senior Nicole Kline (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park), sophomore Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), junior Melissa DellaRocca (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and freshman Adrianna Rabusin (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland). Junior Tori DiFusco (Mahopac, N.Y./SUNY Cortland) rounded out the ten Mavericks recording a point with an assist. Junior Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) started in goal in the first half finishing with one save to pick up the victory and improve to 3-0.
Amber June recorded the lone Dominican goal of the day with 3:36 left in the second half.
Mercy continued its dominance over the opposition as they jumped out a 12-0 halftime lead and cruised during the second half to their third straight win.
The game remained scoreless for nearly three minutes until Davidson notched her seventh goal of the season off a feed from DiFusco to put Mercy up 1-0 with 27:17 left in the half. Jehle wasted little time in giving the Mavericks a two-goal lead as she scored at the 26:22 mark off a pass from Isnardi.
Isnardi tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season with 25:19 left in the frame on a free position shot before less than two minutes later McNally got into the scoring column to make it 4-0. McNally later netted her second goal of the afternoon at the 22:01 mark to make it 5-0, forcing a Dominican timeout.
Kline picked up her first goal of the season with 18:55 left in the half and Haines answered with two in a row to make it 8-0 Mavericks at the 17:21 mark. Koehler followed with her two goals of the game and Jehle and Rabusin closed out the scoring in the half. Mercy held a 17-1 advantage in shots with the Chargers playing a man down.
The second half saw Mercy put the game in cruise control with DellaRocca scoring the lone Mavericks goal in the half with 9:13 remaining to make it 13-0. Dominican finally broke through to end the shutout with 3:36 remaining on an Amber June goal.
Mercy ended the day with a 23-7 edge in shots, a 16-8 advantage in groundballs and a 12-4 edge in draw controls.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks look to start 4-0 for the first time in program history when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, March 12th for a 1 p.m. start.
