Costa strikes out game-high four batters against Golden Lions

The Mavericks are now 10–20 overall and 3–9 in the East Coast Conference. The Golden Lions improve to 14–16 and 7–4 in the conference.

Junior Kenny Costa threw the full nine innings for the Mavericks, allowing only five hits and striking out a game high four batters for the no-decision. Fina led Mercy at the plate with two hits and one run scored.  Freshman Joeseph Sadallah and senior Justin Palladino both recorded hits for the Mavericks. The Golden Lions were led by junior Tyler Piccolo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Golden Lions would be the first to score in the top of the third inning, when senior R.J Going was able to hit a sacrifice fly RBI to allow Piccolo to score the first run of the game. Neither team would score until the eighth inning, when Piccolo was able to score the second and winning run of the game off of a single from senior Michael Richter.

The Mavericks were able to get on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning when freshman Nicholas Chilson grounded out to second base, bringing Fina in for the lone Maverick run. Mercy would fall to Dowling in nine innings.

On the mound for the Golden Lions was redshirt freshman Chris Cepeda, who threw a full nine innings and struck out one batter.

Head Coach Jason Lamando and the Mavericks resume action Friday, April 22nd as they host Molloy College for a 3:00 pm game time.
