Lloyd records three hits in ECC split with NYIT Bears

The Mavericks are now 20-26 overall and 10-16 in the ECC. The Bears are 27-11 and 18-4 in the conference.

Game 1: Mercy 5, NYIT 2

The Mavericks were the first to get on the board as they scored in the top of the second inning. Junior Julie Gross was able to lead off the inning by singling out to right field. Freshman Kaylee Stevens then executed a sacrifice bunt to move Gross over to second. Lloyd stepped up to the plate, nailing a single to third base and advancing Gross to third. Sophomore Chelsea Konyar's ground out to short stop would serve as the first RBI of the game, bringing Gross in for the Mavericks to gain a 1-0 lead.

The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Bears were able to score. The hitting would begin when Junior Madison Smith doubled out to center field. Next up was junior Tiffany McCracken who brought Smith in when she doubled to right center for an NYIT RBI. The fifth inning would come to an end with a 1-1 tie.

Mercy was able to earn the lead in the top of the eighth inning when Junior Katiana Golino homered to left field. However, they were not able to hold their lead for long, as the Bears were able to score in the bottom of the eight. Senior Christina Pantages was able to score for NYIT when McCracken singled to left field for the RBI.

The Mavericks were able to regain their lead in the top of the ninth inning. Junior Baylee McCormick was able to score the first run of the inning when Stevens singled to second base for the RBI. The scoring was not over yet, as Lloyd then doubled to left field for a two run RBI, bringing in Stevens and sophomore Marlena Marzigliano. The Mavericks took game one 5-2 in nine innings.

In the circle for the Mavericks was freshman McKaily Cusumano. She pitched a full nine innings, striking out three batters. For the Bears, Carly Wade also pitched a full game, striking out four.

Game 2: NYIT 6, Mercy 0

The Mavericks struggled offensively in game two of the doubleheader, as they were not able to get on the board. Lloyd led the Mavericks at the plate, recording the lone hit of the game.

The Bears were able to record four hits against the freshman Joelle Salisbury, who pitched a total of 2.2 innings, striking out two batters. Junior Jackie Kielty pitched the remaining 3.1 innings and gave up five hits for Mercy.

McKracken and Smith led the Bears offensively once again in game two, combining for three hits and three RBI. In the circle for the Bears was junior Lauren McLaughlin, who pitched a full seven innings and struck out five batters.

Head Coach Mike Fazio and the Mavericks will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host the LIU Post Pioneers in their season finale. The conference doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 pm.
