Women's Lacrosse enters triple OT with ECC foe Dowling College
Box Score With the loss, the Mavericks are now 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the ECC. The Golden Lions improve to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The Mavericks were led by sophomore Grace Davidson, who scored a game-high tying three goals and gained two draw controls throughout the contest. Freshman Hunter Isnardi was another threat for the Mavericks, scoring two goals, registering two caused turnovers and grabbing a game-high five draw controls and five ground balls.
Brooke Kreuscher was all over the field for the Golden Lions, recording two goals, one assist, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Alyssa Milano scored three goals for the Golden Lions. Taylor Davide and Allie Merrill both had three caused turnovers.
The scoring was a back and forth battle throughout the contest with both teams scoring three goals in the first half and five in the second. Senior Meg McNally was the first to score for Mercy with 19:13 on the clock. Brooke Kreuscher would be the next to score off of a free position shot to tie the score 1-1. Davidson and freshman Sarah Koehler would score back to back goals within the next minute to bring Mercy to a 3-1 lead. Alyssa Milano and Katie Meinecke answered back for Dowling, scoring off of assists from Allie Merrill and Brooke Kreuscher, tying the score 3-3 going into the half.
Dowling would open up scoring in the second half when Katie Meinecke fed Emma Ferriera the ball in the 28th minute. After Dowling scored, Isnardi took control for the Mavericks, causing a turnover, followed by grabbing the ground ball. Isnardi was able to score two back to back goals for the Mavericks, putting them in the lead once again 5-4.
Milano and Karie Znaniecki would score two in a row, bringing the Golden Lions back on top. Davidson kept Mercy in the game by scoring two consecutive goals off of free position shots in the next two minutes, bringing Mercy on top 7-6. Junior Tori DiFusco added her first goal of the game at the 9:40 mark off of a feed from sophomore Emily Jehle, allowing Mercy to lead by two. Dowling was not done fighting yet, as Milano and Alexis Serras kept them in the game by scoring off of two free position shots, tying the game 8-8 and bringing the contest into overtime.
Both teams would play three sets of overtime before the Golden Lions were able to score with just 0:39 left on the clock. Kreuscher would score the game winning goal for the Golden Lions, concluding the contest.
In goal for the Mavericks was junior Jillian Rocco who saw a full 69:00 minutes of action, recording ten saves. Lauren Young also played a full 69:00 minutes for the Golden Lions and finished the game with nine saves.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks will return to action on Thursday, Apr. 7, hosting the Firebirds of UDC in an East Coast Conference matchup at 4:00 p.m.
