Isnardi Scores Game-High Six Goals to Lead Women's Lacrosse to School-Record 10th Win of Season Against Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD N.J. (Apr. 20, 2016) – Powered by freshman Hunter Isnardi's game-high six goals, the Mercy College women's lacrosse team defeated Georgian Court 17-7 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon. The win gives the Mavericks ten on the season, setting a new school record.

The Mavericks now improve to 10-4 overall, while the Lions now fall to 4-11 overall.

Isnardi led the Mavericks all over the field, recording six goals on nine shots, five ground balls, four draw controls, and one caused turnover. Isnardi currently leads the East Coast Conference in draw controls with 86. She also holds the No.4 spot in all of NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse in draw controls, averaging 6.31 per game. Another Maverick to take control of this afternoon's contest was sophomore Grace Davidson, who scored four goals, grabbed four ground balls, and won three draw controls. Davidson currently is second in the ECC in goals scored with 41.

For the Lions, Melissa Williams scored two goals, dished out two assists, and grabbed two ground balls. Samantha Fernandez also scored two goals, while adding one assist and one ground ball.

The beginning of the first half saw a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. The Lions were the first to score at the 25:20 mark when Kayanna Chandler scored off of an assist from Callie Brown. Isnardi would answer back for the Mavericks, scoring two back-to-back goals in the next two minutes. Fernandez was able to score her first of two goals off of a free position shot to tie the score at 2-2 in the 22nd minute. Davidson was next to get on the board, scoring off of an assist from sophomore Emily Jehle. Fernandez would then find Callie Brown at 21:20 to tie the score up once again. Back-to-back goals from Davidson and senior Meg McNally would increase Mercy's lead to 5-3. The Lions were not going out without a fight, as Agosto Silvetta and William scored back-to- back to bring the score 5-5 for the fourth tie of the game. The Mavericks would put the first half away as they scored four consecutive goals in the last nine minutes of the half to bring the score 9-5 at halftime.

The Lions were the first to score again in the second half, when Williams shot a successful free position shot. Once again, the Mavericks answered back with four consecutive goals from Davidson, senior Nicole Kline, and two from Isnardi, bringing the Mavericks lead to 13-6. Fernandez was able to score the Lions final goal at 15:47 off of a pass from Williams, but it was not enough for the victory. Isnardi, junior Tori DiFusco, McNally, and Davidson scored the final four goals of the game. The Mavericks earned the 17-7 win.

For the Mavericks, junior Jillian Rocco played a full 60 minutes in the net. She recorded six saves on 13 shots. Rocco is currently second in the ECC and fifth in all of NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse in save percentage with 52.4 percent. In goal for Georgian Court was Amber Neumann who recorded 17 saves on 34 shots.

Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 23rd, as they host the Molloy College Lions in an ECC matchup starting at 1:00 pm.
