Davidson shoots a perfect 5-for-5 in 16-1 victory over the Firebirds
Box Score The Mavericks are now 7-4 overall and 2–2 in the ECC. The Firebirds fall to 1–7 and are 0–2 in the conference.
The Mavericks were led offensively by sophomore Grace Davidson, who recorded a game-high five goals on five shots. She also recorded one assist, three ground balls and two draw controls. Freshman Hunter Isnardi recorded two goals, two assists, three ground balls, one caused turnover along with a game high-six draw controls. The Firebirds were led by Venessa Valentine, who scored the lone goal for UDC.
Mercy took control of the game from the start, as Davidson was the first to score for the Mavericks. Mercy was able to score an impressive 11 unanswered goals in the first half of the game, eight being scored in the first ten minutes of the contest. Six separate Mavericks scored in the first half, with Davidson scoring four of her five goals. Senior Nicole Kline had two goals in the first half, while junior Alexa Haines, sophomore Emily Jehle, Isnardi, and junior Tori DiFusco all added one goal for the Mavericks. Mercy entered halftime with an 11-0 lead over the Firebirds.
Haines and Isnardi would be the first two to score for the second half, scoring back to back goals for Mercy. Freshman Sarah Koehler then added her first goal of the game at the 20:04 mark. Valentine was able to put UDC on the board when she scored off a free position shot with 13:41 left in the game. The Mavericks were able to add two more goals in the remainder of the game when sophomore Hope Coticchio and junior Jen Wandle were able to score their first goals of the season. The Mavericks earned the win with a final score of 16-1.
In goal for the Mavericks was junior Jillian Rocco. Rocco played the full 60 minutes and earned her seventh win of the season. For the Firebirds, Dani Falco also played the full 60 minutes and recorded four saves.
The Mavericks dominated the game defensively, as they held a 14-4 draw control advantage over UDC. As well as a 16-7 advantage of groundballs. Haines led the Mavericks defensively with four caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks will return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 13 as they host the University of Bridgeport in an ECC contest at 4:00 pm.
