Game 1: Mercy 4, Queens 2
Senior Scott Hagan led the Mavericks to victory in game one, recording a two RBI, one run and one hit in the contest. Junior Charles Fina also added two RBI and one hit for the Mavericks.
Hagan started off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, when he blasted a two run home run to left field, allowing sophomore Bryan Torres to score after he got on base hitting a single to left field.
The next two innings would remain scoreless, until Fina was able to single to left field, allowing sophomore Nick Arcabascio to score along with junior Randal Mendez.
The Knights put up a fight in the top of the seventh inning when Matt Dawkins was able to get Queens on the board when he scored off of a wild pitch. Up next was Karl Klesin, who was able to single to center field, bringing Kevin Kolesar in to bring the score to 4-2. However, that was not enough for the Knights as the Mavericks took game one of the doubleheader.
Game one was a pitching duel between senior James Patterson and Calvin Luk. Both pitchers struck out a total of seven batters in the contest. However, Mercy was able to record four hits compared to the Knights two.
Game 2:
Game two of the doubleheader has been suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning due to darkness. After four and a half innings of play, the Knights lead 10-9 over the Mavericks. Mercy is up to bat with a man on third and one out. The game will be rescheduled and continue where it was left off.
Head Coach Jason Lamando and the Mavericks return to action tomorrow evening as they travel to Nyack College to take on the Warriors at 7 pm.
