DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2016) – Led by two goals from sophomore Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) and one goal apiece from freshmen Jessica Brandt (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) and Dominique Banks (San Diego, Calif./Helix Charter), and sophomore Corinna Ferrante (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), the Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 5-1 win over Le Moyne College on Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

With the win, the Mavericks now improve to (2-2), whereas the Dolphins fall to (2-1-1).

Le Moyne was led by Rachel Terry who recorded three shots, two shots on goal, and the lone goal for the Dolphins. Kirsten Colegrove also added three shots, one shot on goal, and one assist in the loss.

Mercy set the tone early in the first half when Brandt scored her second goal of the season off of a cross on the right side from sophomore Kennedy Salerno (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa). Brandt was able to put the Mavericks on the scoreboard in the first three minutes of play. The Dolphins quickly answered back just ten minutes later when Terry scored off a through ball from Colegrove to score on a breakaway.

After five minutes of back-and-forth play for the Mavericks and Dolphins, Banks was able to score the Mavericks second goal of the game after a nicely played ball from freshman Natasha Camacho-Bier (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma). The Mavericks then exploded offensively when Noble was able to find the back of the net off of an assist by Brandt on another breakaway opportunity to increase the Mavericks lead to 3-1. Noble showed her force on offense when she blew past multiple Le Moyne defenders to create her own breakaway goal in the 25th minute of play after the feed from Brandt.

Junior Ashley Price (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) felt pressure in the 28th minute of the game when she was faced with a shot from Samantha Ciulla. An offsides call on Le Moyne would then give Mercy possession of the ball to create a scoring opportunity for Ferrante. Brandt sent Ferrante a throughball that she was able to execute into a goal to bring the Mavericks lead to 4-1.

Price was faced with another shot on goal in the 32nd minute from Terry. Noble put the game away for the Mavericks 38:48 into the first half when she scored the fifth and final goal for Mercy off of a crossed ball from freshman Trista Seara (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst). The Mavericks entered the second half of the game with a 5-1 lead over the Dolphins.

The second stanza remained scoreless for both teams in the contest. The Mavericks were able to control the second half offensively and defensively. Mercy ended the game with a 21-11 advantage in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Price registered a full 90:00 minutes in goal for the Mavericks, making six saves for the win. Anastasija Cumika also recorded 90:00 minutes in goal and recorded a game high nine saves.
