Pettit Makes Eight Saves as Field Hockey Plays at ECAC Foe Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 24, 2016) – Despite eight saves by sophomore Cheradyn Pettit (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer), the Mercy College field hockey team dropped an 8-0 decision to ECAC foe Bellarmine University on Saturday afternoon at O.B. Frazier Stadium.

The Mavericks (1-4, 1-1 ECAC) drop their first ECAC game of the season, while the Knights (5-3, 2-0 ECAC) remain unbeaten in ECAC play.

Pettit made a game high eight saves playing the final 38:29 of the game, while sophomore Julia Amell (Greene, N.Y./Greene) made the start in net and made two saves in taking the loss.

Bellarmine was led by Katie Jo Hollkamp who recorded a game high three goals on the day. Goalkeeper Brittanny Macnab played the first 50:55 of the contest and earned the win without facing a shot.

The Knights controlled play throughout as they held a 32-0 advantage in shots and an 18-0 margin in penalty corners. Amell made two stops in the first seven minutes to keep the game scoreless. However, Bellarmine got on the board in the 13th minute when Anna O'Toole scored on a breakaway to make it 1-0.

Hollkamp responded with her first goal of the game in the 15th minute to make it 2-0. The Knights scored three more goals in the frame to take a 5-0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw Pettit make three saves in the first three minutes of the half, but Bellarmine struck again in the 43rd minute to take a 6-0 lead. The Knights would tack on two more goals to emerge victorious.

Head Coach Deirdre O'Neill and the Mavericks look to bounce back when they play at Lindenwood University tomorrow at 12 p.m. Eastern time.
