Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks look to earn their first home sweep of the season in this weekend's contests. Last time out, the Mercy College softball team earned a doubleheader split with ECC foe Queens College on Thursday afternoon. The Mavericks earned a 2-0 victory in game one before suffering a 4-3 setback in the nightcap. Mercy was led by sophomore Kaylee Stevens, who tossed a no-hitter and recorded an RBI in game one if the matchup. A force at the plate for the Mavericks this season is junior Morgan Lloyd, who has a team best .526 batting average, .711 slugging percentage, .560 on base percentage, 40 hits, 19 runs scored, and 17 RBI. Lloyd was named the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 9th after she batted an impressive .650 (13-for-20) with four runs, eight RBI, two home runs and three doubles in six games. Another threat on the Mavericks squad is freshman Kendall Meeks. Meeks was named the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Softball Rookie of the Week for the week ending April 9th after she batted .308 (4-for-13) with two runs scored and a double, while also pitching 2/3 scoreless innings in the circle. For the season, Stevens leads the Mavericks in the circle with an impressive 1.75 ERA with a team best 50 batters struck out and six wins. Mercy is set to take on Bloomfield College in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon before taking on the Lions on Saturday.
Scouting the Lions
The Molloy softball team enters this weekend's doubleheader after splitting with New York Institute of Technology on Thursday afternoon in an ECC matchup. Sophomore Jenna Turato pitched four innings in the win for game two, allowing one run on five hits while striking out one. Sophomore Kaitlyn Snyder and junior Brianna Dalton both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Leading the Lions at the plate for the season is graduate student Milan Botte, who is sporting a team best .407 batting average while recording 35 hits, 17 RBI, 14 RBI, six doubles and two homeruns. Another threat at the plate is senior Ashley Fedor, who has recorded 28 hits 12 RBI, 14 runs scored, five doubles, two homeruns, and one triple. In the circle for Molloy is senior Chelsea Hawks, who has tossed a team high 115.0 innings, striking out 124 batters and has earned nine wins. Hawks is currently sporting a 2.27 ERA.
