Sadallah Records Team-High Four Hits and Two RBI as Baseball Hosts Molloy

Box Score 2 DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 15, 2017) – Despite a team-high four hits and two RBI from sophomore Joseph Sadallah (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), the Mercy College baseball team dropped 9-5 and 4-1 decisions to ECC foe Molloy College on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (8-19, 2-9 ECC) fail to build off their win from yesterday, while the Lions (14-19, 8-6 ECC) move over .500 in ECC play with the sweep.
Game 1: Molloy 9, Mercy 5
After a scoreless first inning, the Lions plated four runs on two hits and four walks to take a 4-0 lead after the top of the second. The Mavericks went down in order in the bottom half of the inning, leading to Molloy tacking on two more runs in the third to take a 6-0 lead.
Sadallah got Mercy closer in the bottom of the third when he smacked a double down the left field line that scored junior Dee Boyles (Sidney, N.Y./Fulton Montgomery CC) and senior Charles Fina (Kingston, N.Y./Ulster CC), making it 6-2 after three innings.
Freshman Matteo Finocchi (Staatsburg, N.Y./FDR) came in relief in the third inning and kept the Lions off the board with five scoreless innings in a row. Mercy got within three, 6-3, in the bottom of the eighth as freshman John Mooradian (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) recorded an RBI groundout after Sadallah tripled in the previous at bat.
Molloy gave themselves some cushion in the top of the ninth with three runs on three hits to increase the lead to 9-3. After two quick outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Mavericks went on to score a pair of runs as senior James Waters (Troy, N.Y./Fulton Montgomery CC) and Boyles netted RBI singles. However, a flyout to center ended the threat and game.
Sadallah went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, while Boyles went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Mooradian went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman David Deberardinis (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) made the start on the hill and went 2 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Molloy was led by Sean Hogan and Jake Saltzman who both went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Bobby Kelly tossed a complete game to earn the win.
Game 2: Molloy 4, Mercy 1
The Mavericks broke through with the first run of game two in the bottom of the second as junior Justin Kiesow (Frankfort, N.Y./Herkimer County CC) hit a triple down the right field line that scored sophomore Anthony Murphy (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) to put Mercy up 1-0 after two innings.
Molloy responded with a run in the top of the third to tie the game up at 1-1 as Kevin Podell singled home Brian Murphy. It remained 1-1 until the top of the fourth when Ryan Dillon recorded an RBI single to break the tie and the Lions tacked on an unearned run to make it 3-1.
Dillon concluded the scoring for Molloy in the top of the sixth as he singled home Ryan Hensley to bring the score to 4-1. The Mavericks could only muster two hits in the game and the Lions emerged with the sweep.
Kiesow and Sadallah both went 1-for-3, while graduate student James Patterson (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) pitched the first six innings to take the loss.
Dillon went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Lions and Dominic Danetti went the distance to earn the win.
