Five Mavericks Record Hits as Baseball Hosts Bloomfield
Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 26, 2017) – Despite five different Mavericks recording a hit, the Mercy College baseball team dropped a 13-5 decision to Bloomfield College on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (10-23) have dropped two games in a row, while the Bears (16-18) snap a five-game losing streak.
Freshman Scott Kelnhofer (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI, while junior Ralph Pasols (Middletown, ,N.Y./Orange CC) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman Tim Gesualdi (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) went 2-for-5 and seniors Randal Mendez (New York, N.Y./Coppin State University) and Nick Arcabascio (Brooklyn, N.Y./Quinnipiac University) both recorded hits. Freshman Spencer Goyette (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and junior Dee Boyles (Sidney, N.Y./Fulton Montgomery CC) added an RBI. Junior Tyler Cinelli (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) took the loss with 1 1/3 innings pitched in relief.
Bloomfield was led by Kendon Strachan who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, while Christian Camilo went five innings with one earned run allowed to earn the win.
The Bears opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI groundout by Cristopher Cabral to take a 1-0 lead. Mercy answered with a run in the bottom of the inning after three walks, a stolen base and a Bloomfield error, tying the game up at 1-1.
It remained 1-1 until the top of the fourth when Strachan brought home a run on a walk with the bases loaded to give the Bears a 2-1 lead. Pasols answered with an RBI triple to right center in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game up at 2-2.
Bloomfield responded in the fifth inning with an eight-run inning on six hits and a Mercy error that gave them a 10-2 lead. After Mercy went down in order, the Bears added three runs on three hits and two Mercy errors to build a 13-2 cushion.
Kelnhofer singled to center field in the bottom of the sixth, bringing home two runs to make it 13-4 after six innings. It remained 13-4 until the bottom of the ninth when Boyles drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the fifth Mercy run of the day. A flyout to center field ended the rally, giving Bloomfield the win.
Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action on April 28th when they host LIU Post at 3 p.m.
