The Mavericks fall to 10-26 overall and 4-15 in ECC play. The Pioneers improve to 23-16 on the year and 13-6 in conference action.

Game 1: LIU Post 10, Mercy 4

After a scoreless first two innings, the Mavericks were able to record the first run of the game when senior Nick Arcabascio (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Quinnipiac University) flied out to left field for a sacrifice fly, bringing senior Charles Fina (Kingston, N.Y. / Ulster County CC) home to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

The Pioneers had an explosive inning in the bottom of the fourth, when they were able to record five runs off seven hits, giving the Pioneers a 5-1 lead after four innings of play. Murphy was able to get the Mavericks back in the game in the top of the sixth inning, when he blasted a two-run home run to right center field, bringing junior Joseph Sadallah (Staten Island, N.Y. / Tottenville) home and improving the score to 5-3.

The remainder of the inning remained scoreless as the Pioneers were unable to increase their lead. LIU Post had another offensive inning in the bottom of the seventh, when two Pioneers hits and one Mavericks error would allow the Pioneers to record three runs, giving them an 8-3 lead after seven innings of play.

The Mavericks chipped away at the Pioneers in the top of the eighth, when senior Randal Mendez (New York, N.Y. / Coppin State University) grounded out to allow Sadallah to score his second run of the afternoon. However, the Pioneers were able to record two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and would eventually take game one of the doubleheader 10-4.

Freshman John Mooradian (Marlboro, N.Y. / Marlboro) went 2-for-5 at the plate, while Sadallah went 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Freshman Paul Hanset (Highland, N.Y. / Highland) made the start on the mound, throwing 3.2 innings and striking out three batter in the loss.

Game 2: LIU Post 16, Mercy 5

The Mavericks were once again able to get on the board first in the nightcap, recording the first two runs of the game. Strategic base running on Mooradian's part allowed him to score on a wild pitch. Next up was Sadallah, whose sacrifice fly allowed junior Ralph Pasols (Middletown, N.Y. / Orange CC) to score to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead.

The Pioneers were quick to respond, as Andreoli and Daley were both able to score off a Maverick error, tying the game 2-2 after one inning of play. Mercy was unable to get on the board in the top of the second, while LIU Post was able to capitalize on their opportunity and score three more runs on three hits in the bottom of the second, giving them a 5-2 lead after two innings of play.

The Mavericks put up a fight in the top of the third, when they were able to record three runs on four hits to tie the game 5-5. The Mercy scoring began when Murphy singled up the middle and was able to advance to second base, allowing junior Dee Boyles (Sidney, N.Y. / Fulton Montgomery CC) to put the Mavericks on the board. The offense continued, as Mendez doubled through the right side bringing Murphy home. Next up was junior Justin Kiesow (Frankfort, N.Y. / Herkimer County CC), who singled up the middle allowing Mendez to score the tying run to make the game 5-5.

The Pioneers were able to put the game away in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning, as they had explosive back-to-back innings recording eleven runs off nine hits and two errors, eventually earning them the 16-5 victory over the Mavericks.

Murphy went 2-for-3 for the Mavericks, recording one run scored and one RBI. Sadallah and Mendez also recorded RBI in the loss. Graduate student James Patterson (Cornwall, N.Y. / Cornwall) made the start on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings and recording one strikeout.
