Wootten Named ECAC Division II Softball Player of the Week; Meeks Tabbed Top Rookie

Box Score 2 DANBURY, Conn. (Apr. 5, 2017) – Mercy College softball junior Cassidy Wootten (Ardsley, N.Y./Monroe College) has been named the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Softball Division II Player of the Week, while freshman Kendall Meeks (Guysville, Ohio/Alexander) was tabbed Rookie of the Week for games ending April 2nd.

Wootten batted an impressive .615 (8-for-13) on the week with a team-high-tying nine RBI and five runs scored as the Mavericks went 3-1. The junior went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in a game two victory over Queens on Wednesday. Wootten followed that up with a 6-for-7 day at Chestnut Hill on Thursday, recording a home run and six RBI in the doubleheader sweep.
Meeks batted a strong .500 (6-for-12) with six runs scored and a team-high two home runs and nine RBI as Mercy went 2-0. The freshman also went 1-0 in the circle with 3 1/3 scoreless innings in the game one win over Chestnut Hill. Meeks began the week with a 2-for-3 outing in game two against Queens, producing three RBI and two runs. The freshman followed that up with a 4-for-6 doubleheader against Chestnut Hill, smacking two home runs with six RBI and four runs scored.
The award is the second earned by Wootten this season and the fourth for Meeks. The Mavericks have now received ten awards this year.
