Game Preview: Men's Soccer Plays in Second Round of NCAA Tournament at LIU Post on Saturday

Scouting Mercy

Mercy was selected for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1989 and finished their 2018 season with their first regular season conference championship since 1992 and appeared in the ECC Conference Tournament Final for the first time since 2004. The Mavericks enter Saturday's game with a 13-3-1 record and are coming off their first NCAA Tournament win since 1989. With a win Saturday, Mercy would have its most wins in an NCAA Tournament in program history. The Mavericks split the season series so far with the Pioneers with the prior two meetings both being in Dobbs Ferry. Leading the Mavericks on the year is junior Maximiliano Rebolledo-Camus who leads the team with 11 goals and 25 points and was named First Team All-ECC. Leading the defense is junior Gaston Rozenblum who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year and leads the team with six assists. Head Coach Pedro Velazquez was named ECC Coach of the Year in just his third year and has a 35-11-4 record during his time at Mercy.
 

Scouting LIU Post

LIU Post is making their eighth straight appearance into the NCAA Tournament and earned the ECC's automatic bid after defeating Mercy, 2-0, in the ECC Championship Game on Saturday. The Pioneers are led by the ECC Offensive Player of the Year in graduate student Lukas Ostermann who has an ECC-best 23 goals along with six assists for 52 points. Also, contributing for the Pioneers is Vittorio Argeri who is second on the team with four goals and 16 points and leads the team with eight assists. Oliver Hessner Hansen leads LIU Post in goal and holds a 10-3-1 record with eight shutouts. The senior was named the ECC Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after not allowing a goal in either the Semifinal or Final contests.
