Seven Different Mavericks Score as No. 10/11 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Southern New Hampshire, 19-11

MANCHESTER, N.H. (Feb. 28, 2018) – Powered by seven different Mavericks scoring a goal, the No. 10/11 Mercy College women's lacrosse team exploded for 19 goals in a 19-11 victory over Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Mavericks (3-0) are now 3-0 for the third straight year, while the Penmen (0-2) remain winless on the year.

Junior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) led Mercy with a game-high six goals and 12 draw controls. Senior Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and freshman Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) netted four goals apiece and senior Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead) contributed a goal and three assists. Sophomore Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) ended the contest with two goals and two assists and sophomore Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) netted a goal along with an assist. Freshman Casey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) also scored and junior Talia Stagnitta (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) contributed four ground balls and seven draw controls. Freshman Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) played the first half in goal with four saves to earn the win.

Southern New Hampshire was led by Alexa Bedell who had a team-high three goals. Goalie Leah Olansky made ten saves to take the loss.

After a pair of close games to begin the season, the Mavericks returned to form as they opened the contest with the game's first seven goals. Isnardi started the scoring just over two minutes into the game and Davidson followed just 25 seconds later with her first of the game to make it 2-0 Mavericks with 27:25 left in the opening half.

Jehle recorded her second goal of the year to make it 3-0 and Davidson netted two straight goals to increase the Mercy advantage to 5-0. Mackie and Corace ended the scoring run to make it 7-0 less than ten minutes into the contest. The Penmen got on the board with two straight goals to make it 7-2 before Isnardi and Sanchez scored two of the next three goals to give the Mavericks a 9-3 lead with 12:48 left in the half.

Southern New Hampshire brought the score to 9-6, but Davidson and Isnardi ended any hope of a comeback with three goals to send Mercy into halftime up 12-6.

The Penmen started the second half with two of the half's first three goals. However, the Mavericks answered with five unanswered goals to make it a 10-goal game, 18-8, with 7:22 remaining. Corace helped lead the run with two goals and Sanchez, Isnardi and Shimborske also scored to put the game out of reach.

Southern New Hampshire scored three of the game's final four goals but the deficit proved too much to overcome as the Mavericks came away with the strong road victory.

Mercy held a 36-27 edge in shots and held a 23-9 advantage in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, March 3rd when they host Southern Connecticut State at 11 a.m.
