Davidson Records 200th Career Point as No. 7/10 Women's Lacrosse Defeats St. Thomas Aquinas, 17-3

SPARKILL, N.Y. (Mar. 31, 2018) – Powered by senior Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) recording her 200th career point, the No. 7/10 Mercy College women's lacrosse team earned a 17-3 victory over East Coast Conference (ECC) foe St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks (8-1, 2-0 ECC) have won three games in a row, while the Spartans (3-6, 0-4 ECC) remain winless on the year.

Davidson finished with four goals and an assist to become the first Maverick in program history with 200 career points. Sophomore Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) had a game-high six points on four goals and two assists and senior Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead) added three goals and three assists. Junior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) produced three goals and five draw controls and sophomore Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) contributed a goal and an assist. Sophomore Brittani Sergio (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) and senior Rachel Gumowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) also scored and senior Hope Coticchio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) had a game-high six ground balls along with two caused turnovers. Freshman Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) made the start in goal and played the first half with two saves to earn the win. Senior Shianne Judson (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) played the second half in goal and made two saves.

St. Thomas Aquinas received goals from Danielle Cajou, Caroline Finnen and Caitlin Verber. Katherine Feigenbaum played 19 minutes in goal and made three saves to take the loss.

Mercy wasted little time in getting on the board as Sergio scored at the 28:39 mark off an assist from Davidson to make it 1-0. Davidson then scored herself with 26:50 left in the first half off a pass from Mackie that brought the score to 2-0. Jehle netted her first of the day to make it 3-0 less than five minutes into the contest.

Isnardi produced two unanswered goals to put the Mavericks up 5-0 with 22 minutes remaining in the half. Davidson, Gumowski and Isnardi scored three more goals in a row to make it an 8-0 game at the 13:34 mark of the opening half. Davidson tacked on two more goals to increase the Mercy lead to 10-0 and Sanchez added two more goals and Jehle contributed another to send the Mavericks into halftime with a 13-0 lead.

Sanchez scored twice and Mackie and Jehle tallied goals to begin the second half, building the Mercy lead to 17-0 with 21:58 left to play. The Spartans concluded the game with three straight goals but it was not enough as the Mavericks came away with the impressive road win.

Mercy held a 34-11 edge in shots, a 25-11 advantage in ground balls and the teams were tied at 11-11 in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday, April 3rd when they play at NYIT at 4 p.m.
