DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 7, 2018) – Powered by junior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) recording her 200th career point and a game-high six goals, the No. 7/9 Mercy College women's lacrosse team came away with a 17-5 victory over ECC foe Molloy College on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (10-1, 4-0 ECC) remain unbeaten in ECC play and start the season 10-1 for the second straight year, while the Lions (8-6, 3-2 ECC) have dropped two of their last three games.
Isnardi added a game-high nine ground balls, 11 draw controls and five caused turnovers and senior Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead) contributed a game-high nine points on two goals and seven assists. Sophomore Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) posted three goals and three assists and senior Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) finished with two goals and two assists. Juniors Erin Dingman (Watertown, N.Y./Onondaga CC) and Talia Stagnitta (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) and sophomores Brittani Sergio (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) and Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) also scored. Freshman Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) played the first half in goal and made four saves to earn the win. Senior Shianne Judson (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) played the second half in goal and made four saves.
Molloy was led by Jessica Markowitz who had a team-high three goals. Alexandra Long made 12 saves in a losing effort.
Mercy wasted little time in getting on the board as Sanchez scored an unassisted goal under a minute in to put the Mavericks up 1-0. Dingman made it 2-0 at the 27:25 mark after an assist from Jehle and Jehle assisted on a Sanchez goal with 26:18 remaining in the half to increase the Mercy lead to 3-0.
Mackie made it a 4-0 game just under five minutes in before Markowitz got the Lions on the board with a free position goal to get Molloy within 4-1. Isnardi and Sanchez then tallied back-to-back goals to put the Mavericks advantage to 6-1 with just under 23 minutes left in the half.
Isnardi then went on to score three straight goals to increase the Mercy lead to 9-1 with 13:33 remaining in the half. Stagnitta and Sergio continued the Mavericks run with two more goals to bring the score to 11-1 at the 8:11 mark. Mercy took a 14-1 lead into halftime after two goals from Jehle and another goal from Isnardi.
Molloy opened the second half with three straight goals to trim the Mavericks lead to 14-4 with 14:28 remaining. However, Isnardi answered with a free position goal and Davidson netted two goals to give Mercy a commanding 17-4 lead with seven minutes left. The Lions would score a late goal but it was not enough as the Mavericks came away with the win.
Mercy held a 32-19 edge in shots, a 31-15 edge in ground balls and a 16-7 advantage in draw controls.
