Chillianis Records 100th Career Point as Men's Lacrosse Takes on LIU Post in ECC Championship Semifinal

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 2, 2018) – Despite junior Bobby Chillianis (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) recording his 100th career point and having a team-high four goals, the No. 3 seeded Mercy College men's lacrosse team dropped a 19-7 decision to No. 2 seeded LIU Post in an ECC Championship Semifinal matchup on Wednesday afternoon.

The Mavericks (10-5) have dropped four games in a row, while the Pioneers (10-4) have won two games in a row.

Chillianis also had four ground balls and junior Ryan MacSpadyen (Toronto, Ontario/Seneca College) scored twice. Sophomore Antonio Rey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored and senior Chris Martinez (Uniondale, N.Y./Nassau CC) and sophomore Tommy McPartland (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) dished out assists. Junior Ryan Gibbons (Seaford, N.Y./Dowling College) made five saves in 45:38 minutes of action to take the loss.

LIU Post was led by Thomas Liantonio who had a game-high six points on five goals and an assist. Bryan Ochs made nine saves to earn the win.

Liantonio got the Pioneers on the board first with a goal at the 14:37 mark of the opening quarter. Chillianis made it 1-1 with his first goal of the day with 11 minutes left in the quarter. LIU Post responded with three straight goals to make it 4-1 after the first quarter.

MacSpadyen scored a man-up goal to begin the second quarter to make the score 4-2. William Snelders increased the Pioneers lead to 5-2 before Rey scored his first goal of the season to bring the score to 5-3 with 8 minutes remaining in the half. LIU Post ended the quarter with three straight goals to build an 8-3 lead at halftime.

The Pioneers went on to score all eight goals of the third quarter to take a 16-3 lead after three quarters of play. Mercy outscored LIU Post 4-3 in the fourth quarter with Chillianis scoring three goals and MacSpadyen adding another. However, it wasn't enough as LIU Post came away with the win.

LIU Post held a 36-35 edge in shots, a 33-30 advantage in ground balls and went 15-of-30 on face-offs.
