12 Mavericks Score as No. 15/17 Women's Lacrosse Earns 20-1 Win Over ECC Foe Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 26, 2019) – Powered by 12 different Mavericks scoring, the No. 15/17 Mercy College women's lacrosse team earned a 20-1 victory over ECC foe Queens College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mavericks (7-2, 2-0 ECC) have won three games in a row, while the Knights (1-7, 0-2 ECC) remain winless in ECC play.

Senior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) led the way with a game-high five points on three goals and two assists along with a game-high 13 draw controls. Freshman Erin Chalich (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) had three goals and an assist and freshman Kayla Reese (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) had two goals and an assist. Junior Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) had three goals and junior Brittani Sergio (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) had two goals. Freshman Juliana Keenan (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) had a goal and two assists and sophomore Nicole Cotton (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) had a goal and three assists. Sophomores Casey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), freshmen Katie Jelliffe (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) and Taylor Bishop (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and senior Marissa Spinazzola (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) also scored. Sophomore Kellie Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) had an assist and five ground balls and junior Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) had two assists. Freshman Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) had three assists and sophomore Gianna Maffei (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) had two caused turnovers. Sophomore Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) made one save in the first half to earn the win. Freshman Madeline Garvalosa (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) played the second half in goal and made three saves.

Queens was led by Lauren Gentile who scored and Jess Serpe made nine saves to take the loss.

Mercy jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. Isnardi and Sanchez both scored three goals and Keenan, Corace and Shimborske also scored to give Mercy an early nine-goal lead.

Gentile scored at the 21:32 mark to make it 9-1. However, the Mavericks closed out the half with six straight goals to take a 15-1 lead at halftime. Bishop, Spinazzola, Cotton, Sergio, Chalich and Jelliffe all found the back of the net to give Mercy a comfortable lead at halftime.

Chalich and Reese both scored twice and Sergio added on another in the second half to put the game well out of reach. The Mavericks defense held the Knights scoreless for the entire second half and surrendered just six shots on the day.

Mercy held a 33-6 edge in shots and a 26-14 edge in ground balls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Friday, March 29th when they play at Molloy at 7 p.m.
