MacSpadyen Scores Two Goals as No. 3 Men's Lacrosse Hosts No. 12 Mercyhurst

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 13, 2019) – Despite two goals from senior Ryan MacSpadyen (Toronto, Ontario/Seneca College), the No. 3 Mercy College men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-2 decision to No. 12 Mercyhurst University on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (13-1) suffer their first loss of the season, while the Lakers (9-3) have won two games in a row.

MacSpadyen scored both Mercy goals and junior Joe Cortese (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) and sophomore Dominic Scorcia (Franklin Square, N.Y./Carey) added assists. Senior Max Littleton (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) had a game-high three caused turnovers and junior Antonio Rey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) went 8-of-13 on faceoffs with three ground balls. Senior Ryan Gibbons (Seaford, N.Y./Dowling College) made eight saves to take the loss.

Mercyhurst was led by Caleb Kueber who had a game-high five points on three goals and two assists. Hunter Emerson made ten saves to earn the win.

The Lakers scored the only two goals of the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead after one quarter. Mercyhurst took a 3-0 lead at the 12:19 mark of the second quarter on a goal from Devin Pipher. MacSpadyen answered with Mercy's first goal just over a minute later to make it 3-1.

A Sam Crusha man-up goal just under a minute later put the Lakers up 4-1 with 10:33 left in the half. MacSpadyen closed out the quarter with his second goal of the day, off an assist from Cortese, to make it 4-2 heading into halftime.

Mercyhurst tallied the game's final six goals to build a 10-2 lead and held on for the win.

Mercyhurst held a 32-26 edge in shots and a 25-23 edge in ground balls. Mercy won 9-of-15 faceoffs.

Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, April 20th when they host LIU Post at 2 p.m.
