Corral Scores Game-High Two Goals as No. 12 Men's Soccer Defeats Dominican, 3-1

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2019) – Powered by a game-high two goals from senior Santiago Corral (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Instituto Francesco Faa Di Bruno), the No. 12 Mercy College men's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Dominican College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mavericks (4-0-1) remain unbeaten on the season and start 4-0-1 for the second straight year, while the Chargers (1-3) have dropped three of their first four games.

Corral added an assist and now has a team-high three goals on the year. Senior Ignacio Mangada (Alicante, Spain/Campbellsville University) netted his second goal of the year and senior Gaston Rozenblum (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Escuelas Tecnicas ORT) had two assists. Senior Maximiliano Rebolledo-Camus (Santiago, Chile/Saint George's College) and sophomore Archie Jones (London, England/Northbridge) both added an assist and junior Jordan Williams (Newton, N.J./North Carolina Wesleyan College) played the first half in goal and made five saves to earn the win.

Dominican received a goal from Maximino Casares Martinez and an assist from Jean Paul Lyons. Joshua Stephens made two saves to take the loss.

The Chargers recorded the game's first shot on goal in the 4th minute but Williams made the save to keep the game scoreless. Mercy opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Corral found the back of the net following a pass from Rebolledo-Camus to make it 1-0.

It remained 1-0 until the 18th minute when Mangada netted a goal, following a long pass into the box from Rozenblum, to put the Mavericks up 2-0.

Dominican inched closer with a goal in the 23rd minute to make it 2-1. The score remained 2-1 heading into halftime with Mercy holding an 8-7 edge in shots. Williams made four saves in the half to keep the Chargers from tying up the game.

Mercy wasted little time on getting on the board in the second half as Corral scored again in the 47th minute off assists from Rozenblum and Jones to make it 3-1. Mercy did not allow a shot on goal for the remainder of the contest to emerge victorious.

The Mavericks held a 15-11 edge in shots and a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.

Head Coach Pedro Velazquez and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, September 21st when they host Queens in a CODA Awareness Game at 3 p.m.
