UDC cut the deficit to one, 14-13, with 14:16 on the clock before the Mavericks rattled off an 8-0 run, capped off by a Griffin dunk, to take a 22-13 lead.

Mercy increased the lead to ten, 28-18, at the 7:03 mark after a Griffin layup. A Zachary Olukanni layup on the next possession made it an eight-point game, 28-20. However, the Mavericks went on a 6-0 run to take their largest lead of the game, 34-20, with 4:02 left in the first half. UDC closed the half on a 9-0 run to head into halftime down just five, 34-29.
