Game Preview: Men's Basketball Plays at New York Tech on Wednesday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Jan. 7, 2020) – The Mercy College men's basketball team resumes action on Wednesday, January 8th when they play at New York Tech.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy has won two of their last three games and is coming off an 86-70 loss to Adelphi on Wednesday. The Mavericks are looking to pick up their fifth straight win over the Bears. Mercy is led by redshirt junior Bryan Griffin who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week and is averaging a team-high 17.6 points (No. 4 in ECC) and 12.7 rebounds (No. 1 in ECC) per game. Griffin is currently ranked No. 1 nationally in rebounds per game and is No. 8 in total rebounds (140). The forward also leads the country in defensive rebounds per game (9.18) and is No. 23 in double-doubles with six. Junior Nakeem Hamilton is second on the team with 13.6 points per game and leads the team with 1.1 steals per game. Junior Dayvon Cuffey is third on the team with 7.5 points per game and is second with 5.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore Dondre Barnes leads the team with 2.4 assists per game and is posting 7.4 points per game.

Scouting the Bears

New York Tech is currently on a five-game losing streak and is 0-4 at home. The Bears lone win came on December 4th at Holy Family. New York Tech is led by senior Jeffrey Hayden who leads the team with 16.9 points per game (No. 5 in ECC) on 45.1 percent shooting. Sophomore Collins Onyeike is second on the team with 10.0 points per game on a team-high 48.6 percent shooting with 5.2 rebounds per game. Junior Marcus Saint-Furcy is ranked third on the team with 9.3 points per game and sophomore Brandon Redendo averages 8.9 points per game and a team-high 1.6 three-pointers per game.
