Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy enters Saturday's game on a four-game losing streak and is coming off a 61-46 loss to Queens on Saturday. The Mavericks are looking to pick up their first win over Bridgeport since December 21, 2013 and first win at Bridgeport since 2004-05. Leading the Mavericks is one-time ECC Player of the Week and four-time Defensive Player of the Week Bryan Griffin who averages a team-high 19.7 points, 14.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. The redshirt junior is ranked No. 1 nationally in rebounds per game (14.2), total rebounds (326) and defensive rebounds per game (10.39). He also ranks No. 4 nationally in double-doubles (16) and No. 7 in offensive rebounds per game (3.78). Griffin needs just 17 rebounds to become the program's all-time career leader in rebounds. Junior Nakeem Hamilton averages 12.4 points per game and freshman Garrett Kirkland is a one-time ECC Rookie of the Week averaging 7.8 points per game. Freshman Brandon Wilson is a one-time ECC Rookie of the Week and is putting up 7.1 points per game. He has scored in double figures in four of the last five games and had a career-high 21 points at Daemen on February 16th.
Scouting the Purple Knights
Bridgeport is ranked nationally in both the NABC and D2SIDA polls and is ranked first in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings. The Purple Knights have secured the ECC Regular Season Championship and top seed in next week's ECC Tournament. Bridgeport is coming off a 67-63 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday and is led by three-time ECC Player of the Week and two-time Defensive Player of the Week senior Bakary Camara who is averaging a team-high 15.9 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game and 2.2 steals per game on 48.7 percent shooting. Junior Hashem Abbas is a two-time ECC Player of the Week and is averaging 15.2 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game on 50.3 percent shooting. Senior D'Vonne Trumbo is a one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week and is posting 13.7 points per game and a team-high 4.3 assists per game in a team-high 33.7 minutes per game.
