Game Preview: Men's Basketball Hosts New York Tech on Saturday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2020) – The Mercy College men's basketball team resumes action on Saturday, February 8th when they host New York Tech at 2 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy looks to snap a four-game losing streak and is coming off a 64-63 loss to District of Columbia on Wednesday. The Mavericks currently sit 1.5 games behind Queens and New York Tech for the sixth and final ECC Tournament spot with six games remaining. Mercy is currently fourth in the ECC in free throws made (275) and attempted (407) and are third in blocks per game (3.5). Redshirt junior Bryan Griffin is currently ranked No. 1 nationally in rebounds per game (14.2) and defensive rebounds per game (10.56). The forward is also No. 4 nationally in total rebounds (256) and double-doubles (13). The one-time ECC Player of the Week and two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week also is fourth in the ECC in points per game (18.7) and is shooting 50.2 percent from the floor. Griffin is 34 points shy of 1,000 for his career and is three blocks shy of setting a new school record for career blocks. Junior Nakeem Hamilton is second on the team with 12.4 points per game and dishes out 2.3 assists per game. Freshman Garrett Kirkland is a one-time ECC Rookie of the Week and is averaging 7.8 points per game, while senior Lamont Williams Jr. is posting 7.5 points per game.

Scouting the Bears

New York Tech is 2-2 in their four games and is coming off a 95-61 loss at Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday. The Bears currently sit in a tie for the sixth and final ECC Tournament spot. New York Tech averages the fewest points in the ECC (67.4) and shoots a conference-low 40.5 percent from the floor. The Bears are led by senior Jeffrey Hayden who averages a team-high 16.3 points per game on 46.2 percent shooting with 5.4 rebounds per game. Sophomore Brandon Redendo is second on the team with 8.9 points per game and leads the team with 1.6 three-pointers per game. Junior Marcus Saint-Furcy is third on the team with 8.8 points per game and leads the team with 3.1 assists per game. Junior Opong Bramble leads the Bears with 7.8 rebounds per game and puts up 8.4 points per game.
