Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 76-59 loss to Daemen on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by junior Garrett Kirkland who had a team-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from downtown and junior James Taylor Jr. had 17 points. Junior Brandon Wilson netted 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Mercy is looking for their first-ever win at Roberts Wesleyan. The Mavericks are 0-8 all-time at Roberts Wesleyan entering Wednesday's game. Mercy was picked seventh in the ECC Coaches' Poll after going 2-5 in 2021. The top six teams in the ECC standings qualify for the ECC Tournament. Mercy made their first ECC Tournament appearance since 2016 last season. Mercy is currently led by Taylor Jr. who averages a team-high 13.6 points per game and has scored in double figures in 11 of the 15 games he has played in. Junior Elijah Mitchell is second on the team with 10.7 points per game and leads the team with 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Junior Brandon Wilson has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and is third on the team averaging 10.6 points per game. He is second on the team shooting 41.1 percent from the floor and has scored in double figures in eight of his last nine games. Junior Garrett Kirkland is fifth on the team with 7.8 points per game and has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice. He is shooting a team-best 38.6 percent from downtown and has a team-high 32 threes on the year. Sophomore Jayden Dewaal was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week last week and averages 10.0 points and a team-high 9.3 rebounds per game and 1.8 blocks per game in six starts. He has been named to the ECC Honor Roll once and is second in the ECC in rebounds per game.
Scouting the Redhawks
Roberts Wesleyan is coming off an 86-80 loss to Molloy on Sunday. The Redhawks were picked sixth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 8-7 last season. Roberts Wesleyan is led by sophomore Ja'Kair Sanchez who averages a team-high 14.3 points per game on 53.2 percent shooting with 5.0 rebounds per game. Senior Shane Fanning is second on the team with 13.0 points per game and shooting 47.2 percent from downtown with 2.1 made threes per game. Junior Amari Lee posts 12.7 points per game on a team-high 54.3 percent shooting and junior Rian Carter averages 12.4 points per game on a team-high 2.3 made threes per game. Junior Abou Gbane rounds out the Redhawks averaging in double figures with 10.3 points per game. Lee leads the team with 5.6 rebounds per game and dishes out a team-high 3.3 assists per game.
