Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy is coming off a 2-1 loss to Bentley on Monday. The Mavericks were led by freshman Ancksu Dixon who scored and by juniors Skyler Schwenkler and Madison Rosa who each had an assist. On Tuesday, junior Kayla Camacho was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and junior Jennifer Silva was tabbed to the Honor Roll. On September 26th, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, freshman Kamy Anaya was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week and graduate student Jessica Hoyt was named to the Honor Roll. Mercy is looking to start 6-0 in ECC play for the first time since 2014. Mercy is ranked No. 15 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and second in the East Region. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Dixon was tabbed Rookie of the Week and Cooper was named to the Honor Roll on September 6th. Bermudez has six goals and is third on the team with 15 points on the season. Junior Kayla Camacho has a team-high 20 points and eight goals with four assists. Dixon is second on the team with 18 points on six goals and a team-high six assists. Graduate student Claudia McKail has two goals and two assists, Hoyt has four goals and Silva has three goals and an assist. Juniors Toni Valadez, Marlene Avalos and Schwenkler and sophomore Isabella Messina also have a goal on the season. Rosa has five assists and graduate student Sydney Cooper has a goal and three assists on the year. Anaya has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and is 10-2 in goal this season with 36 saves, a .837 save percentage and 0.62 goals-against average. The Mavericks are coming off a season in which they went 12-5-4 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the ninth straight season. Mercy earned a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and made the ECC Championship Final for the first time since 2017. The Mavericks ended the season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and began the 2022 season receiving votes. Leading the returners for 2021 ECC Coach of the Year Danny Leon Jr. is Cooper who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year, D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region and First Team All-ECC after playing a team-high 1,902 minutes in 2021. Mercy also returns their top scorer from last year McKail who had a team-high six goals and 14 points. First Team All-ECC and All-Region selection Bermudez also returns after recording 13 points on five goals and three assists. Camacho also returns after posting four goals and two assists and Dominique Bono comes back after scoring four goals. Rosa returns after leading the team in assists in 2021 with six and Avalos returns after having seven points on two goals and three assists. Tyra Anderson, Hoyt and First Team All-ECC selection Schwenkler also return for the Mavericks.

Scouting the Dolphins

Staten Island dropped a 2-0 decision to Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. The Dolphins picked up their lone win of the season against D'Youville on October 1st by a score of 2-0. Staten Island was picked eighth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 3-14-1 overall and 2-6-1 in ECC play last season. The Dolphins are led by Macy Jones-Busch, Christina Lambraia and Adriana Melgar who all have a goal this season. Kolleen Rodriguez and Barbara Serrano each have an assist and Sara Villacres is 1-5-1 in goal with 47 saves, a .770 save percentage and 2.10 goals-against average.
