Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a 5-1 win over Molloy on September 24th. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Jessica Hoyt and Ancksu Dixon who both scored twice and by freshman Kamy Anaya who made a career-high eight saves. Following the win, Dixon was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Anaya was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week and Hoyt was named to the Honor Roll. The Mavericks are looking to start 9-1 for the first time since 2018. Mercy has won eight games in a row after opening their season with a loss. The Mavericks have won five straight meetings against Le Moyne. Mercy is ranked No. 15 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and second in the East Region. Graduate student Nikki Bermudez was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Dixon was tabbed Rookie of the Week and Cooper was named to the Honor Roll on September 6th. Bermudez has a team-high six goals and 15 points on the season and junior Kayla Camacho is third on the team with 14 points and five goals and is second with four assists. Dixon has a team-high-tying 15 points on five goals and a team-high five assists. Graduate student Claudia McKail has two goals and two assists and Hoyt has four goals. Juniors Toni Valadez and Skyler Schwenkler and sophomore Isabella Messina also have a goal on the season. Cooper and junior Madison Rosa also have three assists and Cooper also has a goal on the year. Anaya has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and is 8-1 in goal this season with 29 saves, a .853 save percentage and 0.57 goals-against average. The Mavericks are coming off a season in which they went 12-5-4 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the ninth straight season. Mercy earned a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and made the ECC Championship Final for the first time since 2017. The Mavericks ended the season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and began the 2022 season receiving votes. Leading the returners for 2021 ECC Coach of the Year Danny Leon Jr. is Cooper who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year, D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region and First Team All-ECC after playing a team-high 1,902 minutes in 2021. Mercy also returns their top scorer from last year McKail who had a team-high six goals and 14 points. First Team All-ECC and All-Region selection Bermudez also returns after recording 13 points on five goals and three assists. Camacho also returns after posting four goals and two assists and Dominique Bono comes back after scoring four goals. Rosa returns after leading the team in assists in 2021 with six and Marlene Avalos returns after having seven points on two goals and three assists. Tyra Anderson, Hoyt and First Team All-ECC selection Schwenkler also return for the Mavericks.
Scouting the Dolphins
Le Moyne earned a 2-0 win over New Haven in their last game on Saturday. The Dolphins have won two straight games and are unbeaten in their last three games. Le Moyne was picked 12th in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 2-10-3 last season. The Dolphins have already doubled their win total from all of last year. Le Moyne is led by Hildur Unnarsdottir who has a team-high 12 points on a team-high four goals with a team-high four assists. Avery Maxam is second on the team with seven points on three goals and one assist. Lindsey LeBlanc has four points on two goals and freshmen Payton Khadra and Reagan Sames have a goal and an assist. Allison Moreau is 4-4-2 in goal with 49 saves, a .790 save percentage and 1.30 goals-against average.
